General information, please... What is the difference in weight between a stock Buick 455 iron block and main caps versus a "Standard" configuration TA 4550 aluminum block with main caps? I understand that the aluminum block (and main caps, I assume) is a much beefier product than the stock block (the primary reason for it's existence), but I'm interested in the weight difference too. OK, so the real benefit of the TA block is greatly improved strength, oil distribution, displacement limits, etc. All this requires a lot of aluminum (i.e., mass). Sounds good to me. Thanks for you imput,Larry.
To my surprise the aluminum block basically weighed the same as an iron block when we finished it. I does have room in areas to be lightened. Even the caps can be lightened. I think I over built it!
