We are now ready to issue a PO for block castings. All that are interested need now get in touch with us at TA. We are not going to make many extras, two of three at the most. This should take 4-6 months.
Cost Mike? this is the last published price list i looked at. call to verify: http://www.teambuick.com/forums/showthread.php?p=54999
They will start at $5900.00 for a block with the stock cam, cam height and deck height. 3.0" Ford or 3.250" Buick main bearing. We are asking for $1000.00 deposit up front, you are welcome to make payments or just wait till they are ready to ship. We would like to know who is interested by the end of next week if possible.
Mike are you still going down to 2.75" on the raised cam blocks if desired? if so, how does an AMC 390 / 410 forged crank match up?
We can do a 2.75" main but I'm not pushing it. If someone is looking for that size it will be more money. How much? At this time not sure. AMC crank. Have no idea, never looked inside of an AMC.
My guess is very close to an iron block in weight, only because the aluminum one is so much more beefy. But if you want high HP, this is the ticket and would definitely be lighter than iron race-prepped blocks, as they are half filled with concrete, girdles added, etc....none of which you would need with th aluminum block, and the alum would definitely be a lot lighter than the iron block for race applications.
The aluminum block will be about 100lb less than a race prepped and girdled iron block. Yes, they have cooling provisions for street use.
Have no idea, never looked inside of an AMC. an AMC 390 or 410 crank would be a destroke but it does share the Buick bore centers and has a 2.747" main bearing. i don't know about anything else. what issues would there be with a Nail crank?
It looks like im going to have the most powerful BBB in the southern hemisphere.........................bring it on!! Royden
The difference in weight between an iron block with the mains and an aluminum block with the mains is the aluminum block is 12 lbs lighter but will take you to 2000+ (impossible with iron block) without needing any girdle which is a 100 lb savings or so.
Yes, I'm not sure if your specifically getting at a certain aspect but it does have cooling provisions for street use. This block is a jack of all trades as for as a block goes, it can basically do every imaginable thing. You could take one block and make it either a street driver or a full out race engine without really having to change anything it will do both as is.
Just wondering when we'll see this batch of blocks. I have alittle more than a deposit on one, and can't wait to have it in my garage. Gary Giessen
