I’m about to replace my under dash and trunk bulbs (GE89) with LED replacements. The only replacement bulbs I’ve found are about $11 each. I hate to spend $33+tax for 3 bulbs if there’s a lower cost option. On the two rear sail panel 212 bulbs Auxito 578 LED replacements seem to be right at about &15 for 4 bulbs. Anyone used them?
Hi Ray, Heres a link - https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/led-changeover-1970-to-1972-skylark-gs.329221/
Pardon my ignorance but when are the courtesy lights illuminated ? With the headlights or opening the door ? Thx.
Only when opening either door. There are two under the dash left and right and two in the rear sail panels, left and right on a GS with the upgraded interior. Otherwise only one in the ceiling center of the headliner.
You can turn them on turning the headlight knob all the way when inside. Don't have to have a door open.
Update us on the 212 bulbs Auxito 578 LED please. I looked a few years back and could not find any that fit and were "warm", which looks better to me.
Ray, these are the ones I used, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VMFRPNX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QB6QFN4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WF5RCKR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0186P1MUW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The sail panel bulbs might be a bit too bright for some, but I like them. I replaced every interior bulb in my car except the dash warning lights.
Thanks, Larry. I actually had different ones in my Amazon cart that were almost twice the cost so I changed to the first two on your list. I notice the #89 replacements have lenses on them and don't have flicker control circuit. Have you seen any issue with them?
No issues at all. The 89's I used in the 2 foot wells AND the trunk, and license plate light. The sail panel lights are very bright. I don't mind them at all, but some might.
That's the only interior light I didn't change. Mine stopped working a few months ago. It's on the list. This will work, https://www.amazon.com/Anourney-Fes...r_1_3?keywords=563+bulb&qid=1707172000&sr=8-3
Larry, what did you use for your gauge lights? I’ve heard that some of these do not dim much, some are too bright. What is your experience? Also, what about your radio and a/c lights?
My gauge lights? The stock gauges used the same 194 LED equivalents. My Autometer gauges took the same bulbs. You can dim them, but I have never felt the need to. The dimmer control on our headlight switches is not the smoothest, so when you dim them, they kind of flicker as you move the switch. Some of that may depend on the age of the switch. A newer one may perform better than an old one. The dimmer is kind of an ancient design. The clock/tachometer/Climate control/Radio take a different type of bulb. The LED equivalents replace many different bulb numbers. 1893 is the stock number. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WF5RCKR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Hi Larry, The oil "dummy" light and the Gen light on the dash is supposed (factory) to use the brighter 168 bulb, hence, the different color bulb holders on the back of the instrument cluster. 194 is rated at 2 candles and the 168 bulb at 3 candles. The 168 LED's seem to be a bit more money. I bought the ones you posted, as, I'll be happy either way + I have gauges. Thanks for posting the part numbers.
