Everyday Performance LLC will be introducing Zinc plating and chromating services for Quadrajets early in 2014. We are putting the final touches on the processes and services currently. Stay tuned for the official launch! We will make an announcement here, on Facebook, and Twitter (@Edpllc) when services come online. For now, here is a sneak peek on the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Everyday-Performance-LLC/191958290844413
Interested! I do my own small parts plating, but haven't tackled the carb bodies yet. Ken, any thoughts on a durable coating for the aluminum AFB's?
Walt - he's done a few carbs for me - they're freakin awesone. During his "R&D" phase he did the 17059247 on the left - while the finish wasn't totally factory correct, it's the prettiest carb I've ever seen. He has since dialed the process back to where it looks factory, and all my future builds will be going through this...... I wont answer for him, but I cant see a reason he cant reproduce the AFB finish. So the secret is out, Ken?
Yea the cat's out of the bag for sure. The most "Original" look we have come up with for now is the deep bronze Chromate. Modern methods and materials are a bit different than years ago so the colors are what they are. Certainly the corrosion resistance is spectacular, and the carbs come out looking new. We are going to keep on working and improving things as we go. I was told that the aluminum baseplates could be plated just the same, so I dont see why an aluminum body carb couldnt be plated etc. I will check on it. The only trouble with the carb castings is porosity. Some old carbs are so porous and or contaminated they just wont keep a decent chromate without bleaching, and theres no way to tell but to try. Most of the carbs Ive processed do just fine, especially the 76+ carbs.
I got the word. Aluminum castings like AFB, Edelbrock can get a clear (silver), yellow or black color. I understand that with these castings there will be less irridescence than seen on chromated steel
