Hello, so I am helping a friend with 69 Riv to install this shiny thing on his car but it doesn't want to work, I tried all the configurations, different rotors, caps, wires all for nothing. In fact this is the second dizzy, first has been returned earlier due to same issue. I put back original dizzy with accel breakerless conversion and it's flawless. But ppl want shiny stuff and my friend aswell. MSD works like it's out of faze or something, advancing or retarding dizzy doesn't change much, engine runs like it's on 3 cylinders, also there is no way to rev it even s bit. Is it just the POSines of MSD? Maybe we are chasing our tails here and I realy should talk him out of MSD? Peace, Kacper.
I can't see how this would apply to your situation, but the only thing I can think of is, IF you reverse the polarity on the magnetic pick up, the ignition timing will be extremely advanced. If you are using an MSD ready to run distributor, you can run an ignition box. I'm just curious to see if that would make a difference or not. Maybe you can borrow a box? Probably not, just a suggestion. Are you sure you have it wired correctly?
Tomorrow I will have the number as it's in my garage and I ain't goin there today. But inside it has this hall sensor I think. Peace, Kacper.
The polarization problem would have to be inside the pickup, wires are connected as per instruction and problem is exactly as it was with a previous MSD. Peace, Kacper.
Last thing I was considering is the gear is in fault or the trigger wheel is installed wrongly, but than I would be able to adjust it by turning dizzy or not? Does it have anything in common with dwell? I am not that strong in this department. Peace, Kacper.
Wouldn't it destroy the coil? I mean I am helping here and wouldn't want to owe a coil... Peace, Kacper.
Been running MSD on the 430 for years with 0 issue. I have the 6AL2 box as well. Seat of the pants difference in the way it runs over stock
MSD Ready to Run are complete garbage, if that's what you're using send 'em back. Get a Davis Unified Ignition!
The 8552 requires full 12V to the red wire. Notice on the diagram there is no resistor shown in the feed from the key to the blaster coil. IF your using the factory coil + wire to feed the coil, then your using a resistor in that feed. First thing the MSD techs will tell you is to wire it to key on 12+, with no resistor, that usually solves these issues. Your not the first one to encounter this. JW
Unfortunately I am aware of this, as I stated before car has been running with Accel conversion which also runs on 12v and I know all is OK couse I was the one who installed Accel. Peace, Kacper.
