Anyone using the moog 5401 rear springs ? How's the ride height, traction, street handling, and hook at the track ? Thx,John.
If it makes you feel any better, I went and looked at the moog # for the springs I bought a few years ago, and they were 6204's for the front....wanna talk about 6204's?
Hi, thx for responding. I do have 6204s up front. I have 5379s in the rear. Was curious if anyone has used 5401s in the rear for better street / strip traction.
I've always just used whatever really beat springs that came with the car, even grabbed A-body springs my friends were throwing away. It seems the factory springs weakened pretty quick and the ass end of these cars would sit right on the axle....even in the promotional photos brand new! But no, never tried the 5401's - what's the actual application for them?
Yes I've used them. I've alternated between 5401 and 6321 depending on tire diameter to get the ride height/suspension geometry I want. You can fine tune either by installing/removing the rubber isolators. 6321 is about 1" taller. traction good - maybe a little soft on the spring rate. Wow ! Thank you. That's help for me. Much appreciated. :TU: Seems like the 6321 might be better than what I'm using now. I installed the 5379s. Not sure yet how they'll do at the track. Only thing is they increased the front to rear angle a little on my lower trailing arms, which I've been told hurts traction. The ride seems ok though. Just continuing to look for better street/strip traction. John.
Autozone has all those springs pretty cheap. I assume they're moog springs in an Autozone box because the moog part number is embedded in the Autozone part number. http://www.autozone.com/suspension-.../8-cylinders-5-7l-2bl-ohv/744458_0_6199_1572/
Just discovered this old thread. I have 5379 on my car now. These give me the tire clearance and give good traction. I have 6321 and 5401 and cc501 springs on the shelf. 5401 and cc501 sat low. cc501 is a firm cargo spring. 6321 is a little softer and shorter than 5379. Anybody need springs?
Yup...CC501 are as low or lower than stock. Saggy rear. I've been using a 1" spacer on the street, but don't want to use it at the track. The spacer wobbles on the spring seat and it just doesn't seem right. Thanks for your other threads, Gary. I'll get it figured out yet...
I just pulled car out of the shop. Had then install repop box control arms+ 53-- Don't remember if they are 5397 or 5379, Had to get springs off eBay cause conterguy at auto store I work at said they were on backorder. Compared to springs on car was at least 3 in maybe more taller. Control arm bushings didn't have that pad of cushion I expected and when locked down u had to look and see if inner tube was in contact with rearend brackets. Kind of soft in recoil - mushy better describing it. It has raised the car tho. 2 in probably. The way it was before I could barely fit my arm under car to ty up lead pipe when it cracked off. Now 69 car has poly control arms + tubular upper but is stiff and on bumpy roads you feel every rise on pavement. Its always something ...
I just installed CC501 in the rear of my 72 GS455, it was way beefier than the original. I believe it will settle a little in the rear, the front is still has the original, but will be replace this year.
What is CC - comfort coil? My rear had to hang down and still we pulled it down more to get spring in. The lower arms came right out But I had been soaking them. The thickness of bushings on OG. Might be the difference.
Anyone have any results with these rear coil springs ? I have the 5379s but haven't been to the track to see how they affect traction. As far as traction on the street, forget it.
They ought to take a poll. Those who want height- or those that need a little firmer. I can't imagine what a big block car would do. I asked a swap guy for springs but I ain't laying under a car swapping until I find a pair I want. I'm more interested in cruising The difference between stock and 5379 spring It liked like it wasn't gonna go in. Took off shock lower - still had to pull it down Surprised didn't pull off line to brake tee. Last time I replaced that hose I picked longest I could find
