The Buick hub is sold undersized, needs honing. At least the one they make currently according to my e-mails from ATI Can’t remember exact number, but no way it will slip on. I’ll know in the new year when I receive a new one. The one I have has definitely been played with, it slips on, but it also moves….it’s too loose, won’t be using it. Yes on the Chevy pulley. I need a 3 groove, short water pump version.
That's good they apparently have got their act together because years ago they admitted they made the hub ID the same as stock Buick ( no interference)
I had mine honed for tight slip fit (internal balance) Buicks are different in that they use 200 ft/lbs torque rather than interference fit with alot less torque as on Chevys.
I think alot of the aftermarket bbbhave more interference than say a bbc does, and I can't see why any more than that is needed. I honed my romac to have about the same as a bbc........a loose fitting one can't work well......but too tight that you can't get it on and off isn't good either I've heard of some ppl putting the dampner in the over on like 150 or so, for a little bit to help it expand but not so hot to melt anything........I can't say I've done that........
I'm thinking Buick using 200 ft/lbs makes it tight enough to do it's job. Kinda hard to prove. I wonder if anyone has done any tests to see difference of interference vs slide on with lots of torque. I've got 800 passes on the motor that has the ATI that I honed......
I sure hope I dont have problems with it. Just had one double keyed. Guess I'll see when its on. Plan to run a serpentine belt.
I have the March serpentine. But with a Blower bracket probably won't clear. So everything gets moved back and put to sides.
So your have a March Buick 455 kit? Yes I have that kit. But I m building a Tomahawk Block with A BDS 871 Blower. I have the entire Blower kit. TA has my Molnar crank to machine block. I bought 1 off Kenny Betts stroker crank kits. He has a set of pistons made for me to drop compression to 8.5-1. March does not make a Buick brackets for a blower. They do for BBC. SO Ill custom build brackets to clear the blower belt. If I have a issue ill contact you if your have other brand style pulleys.
Just an update on the ATI BALANCER.It is in drawing/engineering now.With the help of a couple members here hopefully we can come up with a balance hub that will be thick enough for power levels these days with only minor machining to the front cover for a different crank seal.
The hubs are available! I just placed my order wit ATI, they are also honing the hub for proper interference fit. The rep I was speaking too “Stuart” claims they have a new thicker wall hub design for the pro charger guys and a seal part number that allows a larger diameter seal in the cover to accommodate the larger od of the thicker hub.
Installed a CVF pulley, 5.4 inch diameter. For big block chevy, short water pump 3 groove. Just did a trial fit, looks like i only have to space out water pump pulley, and alternator approximately 1/8 inch. Im using long water pump and a/c pulley.
Just here to say the anti damper for a 350 is trash mine was way out of balance and almost cost me more than a set of main bearings if you’re serious about building a 350 just pay the money for bhj to make you a internal balance hub/damper I’ve got a spare crank an flex plate now so I may have my local machine shop try and make a hub from from a stock balancer center section since I have two broken ones laying around the stock balancers tend to give up around 5700rpm I am never doing external balance on one ever again
