I tell you guts cuz I have no other way to vent car thoughts and they'll back up and short circuit my ass if I don't share with the class....once a month if I'm lucky I'll mess with something of my own
That Firebird looks like crusher material to me but, since you're an adventurous guy, why not buy all that sheet metal, throw a cheap interior in it and build that Pontiac OHC motor into a 260 cu. in. turbo motor? Others have done it and they can safely produce 400+ HP at the rear wheels. That's an 11 second 6 cylinder Firebird! But for God's sake, don't turn it into a Camaro.
Keep it a Firebird and put a Grand National Turbo 3.8 in it similar to an '89 Trans Am Pace Car. That would be awesome I think. Paint it white, use the GTA wheels on it and nice low suspension. Ken
I can’t imagine you finishing anything else of your own until you are cruising your gsx again. I have no doubt doing so will fill any automotive void you’re experiencing.
Keep it a Fire Chicken, but get the Buicks done 1st. Grab one of the Buicks (67?) get it drivable and enjoy, then move on to the next Buick. Save the Chicken for retirement.
Thus has plaqued me as well...I got a low mile 75 455 on the stand with 1786 heads and all the other stuff to bolt together a runner under the stand the other day...was hoping to get it going this spring Now jeep in mind the bird would be on down the line for me...X is definitely priority above all else
But I'm just done with hot rod buick building....it's too expensive and to much of a pain to get them built machined and get the parts....The BBC and Poncho stuff are a call away have more potential and I love the vintage speed equipment and there is mountains of that stuff available for both still. The buicks are fine up to 500hp then it just gets stupid
You may want to see if anyone over on the Performance Years Pontiac forum needs that OHC six...you might be able to recoup a little of your investment.
The early Firebirds had a weighted "bucket" suspended in each corner for balance /handling. Saw a set of 4 advertised on performance years Pontiac forum a week or so ago. Darndest "detail" I've run across in a long time. Oh, and this stuff about Chevy/Chevrolet? No sweat. Already taken care of. People On Narcotics Think It's A Chevrolet. See?
Every minute spent fooling with the Firebird could be spent on your GSX. Get the GSX roadworthy and you will be glad that you did. Don't get bogged down trying to make the GSX perfect. Driving an imperfect car is FAR better than having a car in pieces. This is my 2024 motto, let it be yours too! Work on the GSX!
