Hi guys, I bought a TH350 and had it rebuilt to replace the existing TH375 that is in my GS 350 clone (similar to TH400, came from a Buick Lesabre probably). Speed shop called me saying the quadrajet carb on my 350-4 is not made to accept the kickdown cable. He says he can weld a braket and I think put a spacer to make it work or change for a Holley. Also says 4barrel intake is part of the problem. What do you guys suggest/do?
I replied on FB. I wouldn't let him weld on your carb unless that is your only option. The Buick cable goes through the firewall.
As knucklebusted said...the TH350 kickdown cable on Buicks go through the firewall and connect to the gas pedal. The carb has no provision for the cable to be attached. Do not let them weld anything to your carb. You would still need a carb spacer to be able to use a kickdown cable connected to the carb.
What car is this transmission in? Looks like a 68/69 car in your avatar. A 68 wouldn't have any provision for a kickdown cable as neither a 400 or 300 trans uses one. I think th350s were optional in late 69, so you might find a pedal that'll have the extra spot for the kickdown cable, but if originally equipped with a 300 or 400 trans you wont have it. As mentioned, the later cars ran the cable to the pedal, which accomplishes the same thing as having it at the carb. You might be able to make a 70-72 pedal and cable work.
And if I go with a holley and a spacer? Will that reduce hp and/or torque? Cam is Lunati 256/262, 342 gears and 2500 stall torque
The TH350 cable does not go to the carburetor on a Buick, it goes to the gas pedal. Not on a pre 70 Buick though.
Mine is a 68 skylark and earlier th350 i think. So im being told it goes to the carb. Could all this be fixed with a 70s skylark pedal from summit ??
It does not need to go to the carb. When I had the TH350 installed in my 66 Skylark, I also had the correct gas pedal installed so that the kickdown cable could be installed for the Buick motor and Qjet that I have. Whoever is telling you it needs to go to the carb only knows Chevys. Buicks and Olds(and probably Pontiacs, don't know for sure on Pontiacs) had the kickdown on the gas pedal for the TH350. I'm sure if your gas pedal is not already set up for the TH350 kickdown cable, there is probably someone on here that has one from a parted out car. The correct TH350 gas pedal has another hole for the cable to attach to on the rod(either above or below the throttle cable, don't remember which). There should also be a hole on the firewall near where the throttle cable passes through the firewall for the kickdown cable.
I believe,,,,,,,,This is the Assembly that you are after.... TWO cable. Ask others to make sure. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2764210230...lY3solC81AQJkxqZg0LN82AJI=|tkp:Bk9SR4zgj_PcYw
Put a request in the parts wanted section here on the forum. You will probably be able to get one for a better price. That ebay one listed above is the one you're looking for. Where are you located?
Yes the 350 trans used a cable from trans to the gas pedal at top like pic Larry used in post #7. When you connect it and the first time you step it to the floor the small clamp at end of cable at the gas pedal will self adjust for the kick down. Do this before driving out.
Surprised no mods have caught this yet, but this really should be moved to the correct section for automatics.
And you'll need that little adjustable clip that goes on the end of the cable to hold the cable in the hole on the gas petal. Don't know if anyone makes those aftermarket but I haven't had a lot of luck finding them.
