I didn't know where else to post this, but I have a question on putting one on my 71 GS. I know that I can buy the spoiler itself from OPGI/etc. but what else is required for mounting brackets etc? Thanks
No brackets per-se...spoiler fits to bottom edge of fenders and core support. You will have to drill holes for bolts...so clamps are your friend for aligning and marking holes. Technically, there is one "bracket" that goes from center of core support to front lip of spoiler...but I (and others) have yet to use it. In my case, it just didn't fit. You can use spoiler with or without the baffle. If using baffle, install spoiler first, the loosen bolts and slide baffle inside lower edge of bumper and between spoiler/core support. There are 6 special clips that hold baffle to lower rear edge of bumper (I didn't have them and it hasn't been a problem). Baffle has a rt/left orientation. I had to enlarge some cutouts to clear existing bolts. Baffle sandwiches between spoiler/sheet metal...
Diagram here: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?269895-GSX-spoiler&highlight=spoiler+mounting+diagram Use the correct year baffle.
No brackets Though technically incorrect I bolted mine on the ends with the fender braces. No drilling metal required. Just drill a hole on the spoiler on each side and the middle. I did drill a hole in the bottom of the hood latch support for a bolt in the middle. Total 3 bolts No baffle No over heating issues No floppyness in the wind at any speed. To be correct it would mount a couple inches back and you'd need to drill each fender.
I have a center bracket on mine car sits about a inch of the ground an I hit **** every time I take it out lol
Then something is incorrect. Our GSX has a factory spoiler and center brace without this clearance issue. It also has the correct factory G60 -15 Goodyear Polyglass tires.
I have the same center bracket as Jim. I have 15x3 Draglites with 165R15 tires and I live in a really rural area.I have never bottomed out of hit my spoiler... You can see the height of mine here...
I have had same set up as Curtis mentioned for about 2 years now. I never had an issue unless I was backing too fast backwards out the driveway which is on a slope. I have the bracket and baffle but never used them.
Mine's been over the 120 mph mark a few times and I don't have a baffle..I have seen the back of my glass cowl hood bulge up a little though..
I have no illusions that my sled will be driven fast enough or handle well enough to take advantage of spoiler's downforce...for most, no spoiler and forcing air thru radiator probably better...it's there because it was a legitimate convertible option.
Kind of pulled this one back from the grave now that I'm going to buy one. For those who have bought one, whose do like? I'm thinking urethane is the way t go over fiberglass.
I have a glass one.. no issues. Painted it with semigloss black, wasnt a lot of prep and looks great.
So who's is the better one to buy? Thinking that fibreglass is not going to holdup with our crappy roads,
Will those fit on a 69 bumper? TA used to sell a rear spoiler modified for 69 and they did look neat but they dont sell those anymore that I can see.
