Anyone of a picture of their floor shifter the shows the detents for the turbo 400 switch pitch? I have a shifter from a 1964 that evidently was a one year only model and I'm wondering if it will work, or if it will need to be modified a little. Any reference material would be helpful.
Are they the same style though? I'm not that well versed on these things. I want to use the 64 Wildcat shifter that I got for free for my 65. I know there were a ton of changes with those year models. I'm going to have to do some welding, I already know that. But I want to make sure it's going to stay in gear, stay in the right gear, etc...
The overall travel is about the same from 64 to 65, but the number of detente and the spacing is different. You can order a shift quadrant plate from an aftermarket shifter manufacturer for the 65 pattern and weld it to the 64 shifter. You'll have to machine off the 64 stock detent locations. It would take a lot of work but can be done.
it will work, the sp comes into play on the kick down and the switch is on the gas pedal on the linkage on the firewall
