Looking at an open Featherlite trailer for my 72 Droptop. Anyone on here own one? Seem to cost a little more initially but quality shows long after the purchase. Regards, Upstaged in SW Michigan.
I have a 2008 Featherlite open and it is the best trailer I have ever owned. Pulled many, many cars with it. It pulls true and is just under 1400 lbs empty. You wont even notice it behind you when empty..The best puchase I ever made.
I have one with the front airdam and I love it.Bought it from one of the members on the board. I'd never go back.
The air dam definitely is a great idea. I should have gotten one when I bought the trailer. Now,I have an enclosed trailer as well so,it's not needed as much..
I have the 20ft version with the air dam and the one thing that I will say is they hold their value. You can sell them for more than you paid. I have had the 16ft and after having the 20 I would never go back to a 16.
If I was purchasing a new trailer and weight was not a concern these are great. I owned one years ago, and it was a great trailer. Nice for low cars.
My 3110 Featherlite has over 1.2 million miles on it. Can't beat the empty weight of #1475 or the quality. As a transporter who (up until last year) ran 120-155K per year for a couple of decades, I won't buy an El Cheapo Trailer! Too many horror stories of tongues breaking off, bowing in the center, axle brackets breaking off, etc! Nowadays I rarely use the open Featherlite as most folks I transport for have higher end cars & require the enclosed trailer. I HIGHLY recommend the Feathelite!!!! Bill, Agree with what you stated. Looks like I will start the "hunt" and see what is available. Regards, Upstaged in SW Michigan.
I’ve heard that Featherlites are a good trailer. I can’t speak from experience, since I’ve never owned one. I would highly recommend an aluminum trailer. I have an ATC enclosed trailer and get 2 mpg more than my old steel enclosed trailer empty. I can also put more weight in my aluminum trailer because it weighs about 1400 lbs less.
Try this: Marketplace - Featherlite Aluminum Trailer | Facebook Featherlite Aluminum Trailer $8,500 Listed a week ago in Baldwinsville, NY Details Condition Used - like new 24' 2013 Featherlite Aluminum Trailer model 3110-excellent condition. 79" wide between wheels, 102" wide from fender to fender. Maximum gross weight according to the registration is 14000 lbs. Wheel fenders are removable. .
I prefer an enclosed. Which I have an all aluminum custom made. But! Beware of some of the featherlight trailers out there that sell now! Have a friend that bought one, and tracks like garbage. Wheels in the wrong locations. And sways like hell. I also have an open. And is awesome. It’s all about wheel location. I would not purchase a fetherlite open!
I also trailered an a million miles. Love my enclosed costume. One hand on the steering wheel while the other hand holding a cup of coffee while doing 90 mph Just hook up and go. No sway arms or anything
I have both an enclosed 24' trailer and a 18' Featherlite. Bought the enclosed first and used it quite a lot. Only draw back I felt the enclosed has is no door on the driver side for getting in and out of my GS. It is a 2000 model I bought used around 2002. I've put a lot of miles on it over the years. Especially when we moved from MN to NE in 2006. I think it was about 2008, I came across a 1996 Featherlite locally for a very reasonable price. It needed some attention with the wiring and a set of tires. Ever since I got the Featherlite, the enclosed trailer has pretty much been unused. I can agree with others about how well a Featherlite tows both empty or loaded. Loren
I trailered my GS on a Featherlite last year to the Nats and back to Orlando behind my son's Toyota Tacoma. It kept the gross weight under the Tacoma's 6000 lb factory trailer spec. Went over the Chattanooga mountains fine.
Ain't that a hoot - that's right here in my small town. I don't recognize the name or location from the pictures, but that doesn't mean anything.
