latest update is that my coil for the the dizzy went bad and i am waiting on a new one. regarding the ACES its good enough for what i need i think a big point is that i DONT have the timing control feature... since i run my old HEI which isnt recommended. It works but doesnt take full advantage of the capabilities> You can runa Magnetic 1 wire dizzy and MSD box to do so. unforthunally ACES doesnt have a Dizzy for BBB (yet) however the tuning isnt as easy or user friendly as the Holley. + if you cant tune yourself ( i dont) then its hard finding tuners. the holley support is much better when it comes to tuners.. I still planning on updating to full timing control and then it should run much better..
for the SBC they have all the setup on sale the dizy is like 165$ compared to 390 at Holley its pretty much the same setup where you phase your Dizzy to get full timing control. i am sure this is waht you want and it will work really good
W Wild cams as you mentioned are usually in Strip use mostly, so here a Carb is easier i think , the carb just has to work at WIDE OPEN so its easier to set up You probbaly also have locked out timing in such a setup EFI units like this are used for drivability and not necessary for high power. for high power EFI a setup like TERMINATOR X from Holley ( universal version) is the better way you have also more tuning abilities.. i run that on my LS Turbo swapped BMW with big success
it says on there site not for hei? so it will work with hei? im guessing you can mod it like the video so its locked.
@Sebambam I haven't pulled the trigger on the killshot yet (pun intended) as I am still doing research But for the price it is very hard not to give it a try. If it had a liberal return policy I would buy it. Have you seen this video? Looks like you could easily use an ebay magnetic trigger Buick distributor, lock it out and control timing with the Aces.
cant beat the price now... below 800$ make sure you get the new ( 1week old) HEI ECU with the killshot. this video you posted is interesting however timing control only works with a CDI Box , or the ACES ROYAL FLush ( https://acesefi.com/products/royal-flush-efi) it has the CDI box internally the KILLSHOT Does not have that. You can use ACEs CDI ignintion or a MSD 6AL then you can lockout ANY GM Style HEI and set to 15*BTDC to sync with the CDI. here is another video a guy did the same with a holley Sniper setup It works!! However i just upgraded my ACES ECU to the new ECU with HEI capabilty and got a simple Amazon GM Style HEI Dizzy for 90$ . I might find a used MSD 6AL box and then lock it out for full timing control later ( or purchase new) at this point i say go for it..
Thanks, I am running a Progression Ignition small cap HEI right now for boost referenced timing. So, I either have to control timing with the EFI ecm or forgo the timing control and continue to use my Progression Ignition with an ECM that I won't fry using the tach signal off my distributor. I should probably call Aces on the phone. I have just watched a couple of videos where the install did not go well. No way I step up to the Royal Flush, if I am going to spend that kind of money, I'll use a Holley product. One more Edit: The website says the Killshot has integrated timing control and coil driver. it supports timing control YES but in order to control timing you need to control spark as well i think , but maybe you rigth and its not needed , maybe you have to just create your timing map ( which is in general needed i think point 13.2 in the manula explains it I assuem a locked out dizzy is definitly needed otherwise vacuum advance will add/remove timing 13.2 Timing Control Have a timing light handy as the first step will be positioning the distributor. 1) Switch the ignition key ON to power the KILLSHOT™ system up and go to Handheld Tuning >>Spark>>Basic >> Static Timing. This screen allows you to set the distributor exactly where the KILLSHOT™ ECU needs it to be positioned to operate the timing. 2) Start the engine. Then, set the static timing to 15 degrees BTDC. Then go to Handheld Tuning>>Spark>>Advanced>>Lock Ignition Timing. Click Enter to select Lock. Then save. Now, ignition timing is locked at 15 degrees BTDC. Using the timing light, rotate the distributor until you see 15 degrees BTDC on the balancer. Then tighten the hold down clamp. 3) Set Lock Ignition Timing to “unlock.” Set static timing to 15 degrees BTDC. Go back to the Home Screen, and the KILLSHOT™ ECU will now be controlling the ignition timing. Advancing or retarding ignition timing can make an engine want to speed up or slow down. KILLSHOT™ can use this principal as another way (in addition to the idle motor) to maintain the desired idle speed. Besides giving the ECU additional influence on engine speed, the idle timing adjust feature can also react very quickly with what we call “fast adjust” which utilizes timing control by advancing or retarding ignition timing. It is important to note that you will not see accurate timing at idle speed when viewing with a timing light. This is due to ECU calculations. Gotcha sounds like a win then. Prob be a few months before i go this route anyway. I got a few other projects im going dive into before I get back on the centurion. I plan to drive it hit a few shows up then pull it back in toward winter. I have one small spot in the trunk im going to replace and thats perfect timing to drop the tank.
SOOOO i recieved th newest ACES ECU with the HEI capability and i spoke to tech : Bottom line for full timing control a GM style HEI is not recommended , its basically only any 2 wire electronic Dizzies only. ( they need a Coil and CDI box too) comment was : " you could try the HEI , but it could damage the ECU." so i stick with non timing control with my GM Style HEI
FYI if you do EFI in general and you run your stock Alt. you have to upgrade at least to a 140amp alt. the EFI needs arround 13.3 -13.8 V to work flawless. I am upgrading to a bigger alt now.
