Does anyone know the part number for the correct carb gasket for a 68 GS400. I believe there were different for '68 and I want to make sure I get the right one. Thanks,
Rockauto says, FEL-PRO Part # 60057 looks like an open gasket. http://www.rockauto.com/getimage/ge...w.rockauto.com/info/Fel-Pro/60057_P04_TOP.jpg
Thanks Larry, That is the same number I came up with but I just wanted to make sure that it was correct. I thought I seen somewhere that there was one that would fit but would block off something.
Is that the correct gasket? I am trying to figure this out. The Fel Pro 60057 matches the gasket that was originally on my 68 intake manifold, but it blocks off those heat riser passages. Is that how it’s supposed to be? Here is the 68 intake manifold I have, part # 1386681. The Fel-Pro 60057 blocks off that smiley channel. Thanks.
I wrote Quadrajet Power and explained the history and issue as best I could. They were super fast and added the 1968 400/430 gasket to their website today. https://quadrajetpower.com/flange-gasket-697-1968-buick/
69 takes a different gasket than 68. The intake manifolds are different. 1968 400/430 Intake Manifold, Casting # 1386881: 1969 400/430 Intake Manifold, Casting #1386003: I think the 1969 gasket might be this one: https://quadrajetpower.com/base-gasket-725-new/
The last gasket mentioned would work, but it's not the correct one for 1969-74 Buick intakes. IF you have drilled holes and the "hot-slot" early intake you are going to need a stainless shim gasket over the correct early style gasket. The gasket shown above much wider in the front wasn't used for very long, but it will work on most intakes but may need trimmed on the passengers side to clear fast idle parts on some set-ups. In any case I stock ALL currently available gaskets for spread bore intakes. https://cliffshighperformance.com/
What about the 1968 with the smiley passage that doesn’t have the “hot slot” holes. Do you make that gasket? I don’t see it on your website but like your gaskets that prevent over tightening. Thanks.
Will do. I will plan to take photos and post all the different gaskets (should be 3 versions plus the 66/67 one too) I got for the 1968 400/430 intake manifold.
Here are the ones I got with thicknesses: Felpro 60057 - 0.093” Cliff’s High Performance 2665A - 0.129” Quadrajet Power FL697 - 0.058” Quadrajet Power FL598 - 0.056” * advertised as for Early 66-67 Buick I think any of them would work, but I think the Felpro 60057 and Quadrajet Power FL697 are most correct fitting. Cliff‘s High Performance has some extra material on side. I haven’t tried it on car yet, but it may need to be trimmed a little on sides. Cliff’s is the thickest and stiffest. It seems very sturdy. The Felpro and the Quadrajet Power FL697 are nearly identical in dimensions except for thicknesses. The Felpro is a little thicker and appears to have some rubber mixed in with whatever paper like material the gasket is so is a little more flexible. The Quadrajet Power FL598 appears like it may work but has less material on side than FL697 and Felpro and has the extra holes in it that don’t cover up the channel that is in the 68 intake manifold but aren’t used. Quadrajet Parts also makes one specific for the 68 intake manifold but it appears they’ve been closed on their website, so I haven’t been able to get one of those. I believe it is a reproduction of the OEM one. I think it would be identical or close in dimensions to Felpro and Quadrajet Power FL697. It is supposedly 0.093” in thickness same as the Felpro.
