Thanks! Maybe I should... I DO still wish I could support actual "hobby shops...,"even if online... ("Way back when," when I lived at home, I was within walking distance of a great one... ) Googling "buick model parts" ignores "model..." Maybe an e-bay search might not...
This one has Topcat's name all over it...........https://www.ebay.com/itm/4024287860...9sw3l+6ImU8gX4M9kzqDdL1Qs=|tkp:Bk9SR_jet4yIYQ
Having given Bill “Adequate time,” I did purchase. (e-Bay does now offer “Buy Another,” so Bill may still have a chance. LOL!) While, in my “younger model building years” Hasegawa was known for cutting new, “cutting edge” new molds… I’m inclined to suspect they are “slumming it,” re-issuing an old AMT kit… I have: Should the Hasegawa kit actually be “new,” or possibly include a 2” tall hottie in a bikini , I will report back... Nick
The "Big Brown Truck" arrived today. It is worse than I feared... It is a "simplified (not infringing upon "intellectual property") copy" of the old AMT kit... (AMT in grey, the once venerated "quality model mold cutter" in white...) ...Not even a donor for a Nailhead swap...!!! At best, only an oil pan... (no other engine parts exist...)
In hopes of keeping with the "family-friendly, PG-13" nature of the board... The instruction sheet for the "Weird Science" experiment attached
should any one want a "worthwhile" 66 Wildcat kit, this is a steal!!! https://www.ebay.com/itm/165569793681?_trkparms=amclksrc=ITM&aid=1110006&algo=HOMESPLICE.SIM&ao=1&asc=244154&meid=05ee3c2a942f4a66bf3c66bb61fddd75&pid=101195&rk=1&rkt=12&sd=265824217711&itm=165569793681&pmt=1&noa=0&pg=2047675&algv=SimplAMLv11WebTrimmedV3MskuAspectsV202110NoVariantSeedKnnRecallV1&brand=AMT&_trksid=p2047675.c101195.m1851&amdata=cksum:16556979368105ee3c2a942f4a66bf3c66bb61fddd75|enc:AQAHAAABIMFr2e4EmAnM%2ByHZkULYKDIJ4L66fOjNL0iupgt%2BzO1%2F3AE1t3mNirUYB96NktMCicMagiS6mbeTl0xquGODv9lYhp5U3HKkxcf1h0Fb62CbdOuSAOQrySEzk6q2p3sDQB62aoZh%2FcdSwVAq4mMNXSmXXddJHHqftY7GJ%2Fy0xeIzKMixkglENGIbSJMTNbymdvVzkr28sHy%2FqFp%2Fxf4Qrhf6lgC1IXd7DfgfZBapGaso9b4JOTpHesBFa59590V2ECInK6IcCQuJYadIkTwHIwGZWdxp5yYtx%2BatQ2FEpbQeQT2dPHOxPt%2FOhKdVLr7t2Fg9yiP16VyAhMAB16oFPN9tiv1NEoIP9IAijRgB7AmYNt1J6YvQQuPfZYIuCOZdYw%3D%3D|ampidL_CLK|clp:2047675 With "Six available," I presume a "re-issue." No doubt, preferable to the Hasegawa "Type B Coupe." (Unless you really need a 2-1/2" bikini model...)
Is this model that has a 1965 dash? Can't remember which one I had but other than the wrong year dash it was a great model back in the 80's..
Ahh... (didn't dig that far into either kit...) Yes, the AMT kit (at least mine; I'm assuming all releases?) does have a two-pod '65 dash. The Hasegawa version addresses the issue with a flat new part and a decal....
Does it come with both dashes? From the look of the plastic "cheap white plastic" i'm guessing no. I guess it matches the bottom now If I didn't have such a unsteady hand and had a chance of doing a decent job painting the 65 2 pod dash I maby?? could live with it. That early model sure did a nice job with the Nailhead motor and overall.
It is, as far as I can tell, a "pick your poison" situation, lest "scratch building/kit bashing" be involved... More posts to follow...
Peter (PGSS), and all... I propose to “blame you” for sending me down this “rabbit hole” LOL! (I’m a 68-70 A-body guy!!! Granted, I’m going by my own choice and curiosity… ) The “65” dash in the 80s-90s re-issue “66” AMT kit is no doubt a reflection of an original history of “more trouble than it’s worth” to “fix everything,” to turn a ’65 kit into a ’66 kit in the fall of 1965... Neither kit purports to be a Gran Sport. Both have the same “Wildcat” script on the quarter. (I could swear I remember seeing “double spaced” block letters on Wild Bill’s car…???) (Further proving I should know better than to trust Google, the first “hit” I got was script “Wildcat” with an “italic” 67-72 “GS” beneath… I leave it to those “more expert” to further question appropriate quarter panel emblems…)
Some further “down the rabbit hole” detail, if so desired… Should the modeler wish an engine: the Hasegawa kit offers an oil pan, and a molded-closed hood… A ’66 Wildcat modeler must go to AMT to have an engine. (If anyone might know of an aftermarket model Nailhead, please step forward now…!!!) Should the modeler eschew the optional Webers, the AMT ’66 Wildcat kit does include (recognizable, despite the chrome) dual AFBs, and a (not chromed) dual snorkel air cleaner. (Not well-shaped either… Sending me deeper into the rabbit hole… Pulling out my three Nailhead-powered Riviera kits…) Both ’65 Riviera kits (80’s “Crusin’ USA”, and a 90’s re-release, comparable to the Wildcat that started this) have the same “rather ‘squared-off,’ three big ribs, oval snorkels,” air cleaner as the Wildcat kit. The ’66 Riviera kit offers better. “Being picky,” I do still wish it were a bit more rounded off at the perimeter… But, it is better… more ribs, and better shaped snorkels…
LoL! Your having a meltdown Once a Buick guy always a Buick guy I can't for the life of me remember if my model had the Script "Wildcat" emblems that I think the later year 66 Wildcats had the block letters. I'm also ebaying like crazy trying to find a model that shows more pics than the one of the front of the box! Do these Hasegawa models even use glue or are they snap together? If I had a choice of a silly sticker or a more detailed dash i'm going for the less accurate and harder to paint 65 dash...
So my old Wildcat model had the dual quad option but a not so accurate air cleaner.. Couldn't remember again.. Your frustration is my gain Had to say it Nicholas
