Are these washers/shims between the tranny case and the rear frame pad supposed to be there or not, from the "factory"? Inquiring minds want to know!? Thanks, Eric /,Oregon
Hi CJ...That picture you provided shows that's for a "MANUAL" transmission M40. I'm not so sure what a M40 is now. Some sites show a M40 is possibly a Turbo 400. So I still need to get confirmation on the "TURBO 400". Your picture does show "pink" for the mount pad for an automatic M38 which is a Turbo 350 i think? That chart is a bit confusing to me now in reading the fine print. Getting a bit closer on a final answer though. Now I see it ...the pad for M40 T-400? is "Blue"
M40 transmission is the th400. I dont know if those shims came in every car originally or not.........but I can tell you if they did alot are missing. Out of all the cars I've worked on none have had them......but I have had to make or add a shim under several transmissions to get the driveline angles what I wanted them to be
Thanks Ben...appreciate your input. Ok...M40= Turbo 400 So up to this point, it looks like the shims/washers were installed on Turbo 400's at the factory for a 70 GS A-body. CJ...is that picture you provided in the shop manual or...???
