It's nothing special. Just a solid 350 with mild cam, headers and aluminum intake. No special work done on it other than longevity oil mods and machined for better valve stem oil seals. I don't need to run it down the track.
I bet if you did you’d have a blast and want to go quicker That’s what happened to me, was content with cruising, then read Larry’s Power Timing thread, WOW, runs better! then got curious JUST HOW MUCH BETTER, went to Norwalk, 15.0 First try, spinning like mad, but it was fun! Got drag radials, ahhhh much better, had Everyday Performance redo my original Q Jet, took the crappy Holley 750 vacuum secondary off and put the Q Jet back on, WHAMMO NOW WERE TALKING mid 14’s Then one of JW’s 9.5” converters, BAM 13.78 I was pumped!! Then single plane, 850 AED double pumper then roller cam, then 11.6 to 1 compression, forged rods, forged pistons, it’s a rabbit hole for sure
When I was 16-23, that was my goal, and I had a pretty hot 70 Stage 1 then. I ran a best of 12.46 at 112MPH on 8" slicks and still couldn't hook properly. I had Hooker fender well headers, 5.13:1 gears and I outran an uppity track sprinter for 50ft. He said he never lost that bet before. The cam didn't pull enough vacuum for power brakes at idle so when slowing down, I had to gear down to get it to stop well. LOL As a poor college student, I got tired of breaking stuff. I snapped a sprag in one well-built Turbo 400 and stripped the input shaft inside the front drum on the same 400 another time. Went through some u-joints and an engine mount or two. I think I also had to replace some rear control arm bushings.
and all that is enough to stop you from taking car to track to see how it really runs? besides, engines always need a snot job and track is good place to do that since it is safer there than the street. Don't you live like 10 min. from BG?
The BG city limit sign is in my front yard. I took the Stage 1 with with an engine that had never been down the track back in 2022. It did about what a stock Stage 1 did when tested by MT. Without slicks, it was fun but not impressive. The 350 car will not be impressive but it feels good. The M23Z is a nice addition.
you don't have to be fast to win there was a day when I ran 14.80 1/4 mile runs and would win in the bracket racing world.
350 sbb powered 1978 LeSabre I bracket raced years ago. Ran mid 15s, 90 MPH. Had a lot of fun with it.
Original motor, 100,000+ miles, smoked going down the track. Poston headers and cam, TA intake, 3.91 rear gear. Rotated between a Q-Jet and Holly 650 DP. Turning around 5300 at the finish line.
It's a stick car and I don't have slicks any more. I wouldn't be consistent at all. Heck, it hasn't been over 5,000 RPM yet. It runs well but I have a 455 Stage 1 car warmed over, too, so I don't see any surprises in my future from the 350.
different cam and ask for advice here, can easily outrun what they produced on horsepower tv with less.
It’s hard to find a lot of direct information for me. I was hoping to start with a decent cam and avoid a rebuild but nothing really worth doing from what i saw. Even for the heads seemed not worth it.
