New message response from: motorco18013 (33,535) I just checked with our attorney. He agrees, you recieved an order with 6 imperfections, we and he, feel you are owed your money back. Please file a return asap. Let’s make this right for you. You’ve are so reasonable. Seems they won't send 1 new lugnut out, so I'll have to buy another set, put together(cherry pick) one good set of 20, then send 20 back.
Hassle factory just went up now since you have to now invest more time to return them. But at least they are willing to get you a better set. What a strange reply. They got an attorney’s opinion over a $20 sale? (I’m pushing the BS button in that one). While the shipment was from the US, the entire response reads as though it was from someone in China. Especially the last line: “You’ve are so reasonable”
I thought it was a very kind response. They are telling you to put in a return at eBay, and they will refund your money. From my reading, they don’t want you to buy more. I’d recommend you return them and then buy the $140 or $180 lug nuts, which hopefully will better meet your quality standards. These obviously do not. I apologize to anyone that had to “invest more time” and feels this was a “hassle factory.” But as I said in my original post, these are for people looking for inexpensive lug nuts that have originalish look not for show quality. If you are worried about whether or not chrome will flake off after a year on a set of $20 lug nuts, you shouldn’t buy these. For me, they are fine, and I’m happy. I guess I’m a $20 lug nut guy. I will keep deals I find to myself from now on.
From other photos I think the 1/2-20 is supposed to be taller than the 7/16-20. Not sure if those 1/2-20 are too tall or not. They look good to me though.
Just ordered two sets. I think they will be fine for a driver car and thats a good price in my opinion.
Another option is Thornton’s. Their lug nuts are probably from the same Chinese factory as they look identical. Thornton’s also sells them for $1/each but there’s no free shipping. On the bright side they no longer have the size etched on them (they did previously, which is another reason I think they are from the same foreign factory). Thorton’s sell them on their website and on their eBay store. $20/set but $10.20 shipping (flat rate USPS padded envelope price). If you don’t want the size etched on the lug nuts and are willing to pay $10.20 extra to get it, these are just another option. The two different sets i received from the op recommended eBay seller "motor co" just happen to have no size etched anywhere. So I've got that going for me..........which is nice
Even more evidence that the eBay seller and Thornton’s are possibly getting them from the same manufacturer. The sets that GSXER pictured a few days ago have the size on them. So it’s like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get.
I bet the ones that CARS and the others are selling for $140 to $180 are manufactured in the exact same factory in China. Some are etched and some are not. I think they are exactly the same. https://www.ebay.com/itm/174926040386
Just got mine today... One lug nut out of the 20 is marked with the 7/16 thread size. But not a big deal to me. Might be able to polish it off. For $20, can't complain too much. Lol As long as my studs aren't too long and the lug nut isn't too short and bottoms out, they'll be ok. Not show quality, and a few dings and scratches, but good for what they are. As far as the Thornton's reference...this sheet was included in the box and it references Thornton's...
Cool, I'm local to Thorntons. I was there just over a month ago to get their repo seat foams (I highly recommended them). The lug nut website, themotorcompany.com says this: Apparently the lug nuts come from Thorntons. I see they carry the Thornton seat foams too.
Makes total sense. Thorton’s is selling them for $1 and The Motor Company sells them normally 20 for $45.95 on website and $50 on eBay so they are making at least 130% profit . The $19.95 eBay listing might be them failing to update listing because they don’t have “lug” in title so they don’t come up in “lug nut” search. They have them listed multiple times under other cars for $50. I actually got them for $17.95 when they ran $2 off special during holidays. Thorton’s has them listed on eBay for $1 in one listing and $1.50 in another with $10.20 shipping.
