I've got a couple of pesky small leaks in the gas tank of my '70 GS455. I see a number of tanks advertised online ranging from about $200 up to over $400. So, I'd like opinions on where to get the best tank and reasonable price to pay. Do the new tanks have the same vent on the right front as my factory tank and do I need it? I don't have any of the other vaper/vent lines that the '71 and up do. I expect Todd M. will weigh in and his and all inputs are welcome.
I looked up the GM34B. Wherever it was available it showed the application was for a Chevelle. So, the Chevelle and our Skylark/GS take the same gas tank?
We had a thread on this recently...someone pointed out that the Chevelle fill neck was too long and could hold the license plate partially down. Verify and maybe swap filler necks? Should just be soldered in place if I remember right. Devon
Edit...see https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/fuel-venting-question.389171/#post-3432925. Smartin mentions RockAuto GM34B is the way to go, when they're in stock. The too-long fill neck looks like it was a different supplier. Devon
I think the Spectra Premium GM34B is the same from any supplier, as long as the manufacturer is the same.
If you want to save some $ & re-use your orig. neck, I have a brand new '70 tank I'd sell. Probably even have an orig. neck. I'd bring it to Nationals but I assume you need it before then. Also a brand new stainless '71-2 tank (w/neck/straps) I'd sell as well as a very nice used one.
A follow-up question...........Is the pad/insulator that goes between the tank and body available? If not, what's a good substitute?
