Anyone ever tried fitting a 68-69 dash pad on a 1970 or later Skylark/GS? How about the gauge cluster? If the gauge clusters are the same width between the 69/70 model year refresh, the pads seems like they might be compatible other than some changes to HVAC vents and tweaks to mounting points. Looking at the underlying metal support structure - they sure look mighty close, but I only have pictures to go from. I'm building a custom dash for a heavily modified 71 Skylark and considering starting points for scanning/cutting/molding a new dash pad. The 69 is closer to where I want to go.
I see no one has chimed in. I too have wandered this. I am more interested in 70-72 cluster in a 68-69. I know the column hole would be too big for 68 but, just curious if they would actually just drop in place? I actually thought for years that all the 68-72 A body's had the same metal structure hidden under all the dash and clusters. I learned different thou as I worked more on all different types. Chevelles, Cutlas etc....They are all quite different when you get them naked. just like gals. LOL.
I ordered a '69 dashpad months ago to give it a try...unfortunately they've been back-ordered with no ETA. Comparing the mounting tabs on the dash cluster bezels and the mounting locations from pictures - they sure look damned close between the model years.
I meant to reply when you 1st posted & must've gotten sidetracked looking for this pic. The '70-72 cluster will for a '68-9. Not exactly the question you asked but I think if this is the case the early pad will fir a later car.
