We can thank Larry LOL! He posted the TA link earlier today.

  3. That probably would help the situation. I'm not sure I'm brave enough to start drilling the new timing cover haha. I have some time to contemplate while I wait for parts....again....but I'll probably just keep an eye on them with a endoscope through the distributor or fuel pump holes.

Agreed. Make sure you reinstall the oil slinger over the crank snout; it keeps oil moving around the inside of the timing cover, and away from the timing cover seal.

  5. Well that's interesting. This: https://www.taperformance.com/proddetail.asp?prod=TA_1498C

Assuming this goes in front of the gear? I'm assuming because I don't seem to have one. I'm also in here because the seal was leaking pretty good.

Yes. Goes between the gear and the balancer.

And it's no wonder the seal was leaking pretty good.

The slinger may help all of the above! Here it is installed over the keyway & the crank snout, after the timing chain/gears are installed. It's just a circular, dish shaped piece of sheet metal, factory designed and used. Just slides right on. The harmonic balancer snugs it up.

  8. Thanks Jim and Devon. I'm going to call TA in the AM and have one added to my order. The modern seal should help keep it from leaking but I'm sure this won't hurt and I'm definitely interested in getting some more oil flying around in the cover.

I'm pretty sure this block was line bored. I ordered a standard, .005 and .010 timing set, but I'm thinking about switching the .010 to a .002 while I'm on the phone with them. I asked and there's no way to identify what the current set is. I've only found a few different discussions on it, but no one seems to mention going all the way to .010.
