What exactly does "SCO" mean?

    Guys,
You are not on the right track about a separate order form. You are way over thinking this.

There were no separate sheets for the 71 GSX’s (and most likely for the 72’s as well) they were ordered off the standard Wholesale car order forms…..and then the form was sent through to the appropriate zone office for processing.

That is what the dealer bulletin says.

I don't mean to challenge you because I KNOW you know a lot about the 1971 GSX. But, why does it say to accompany the normal order sheet with the SCO?

Are you saying they changed course on how to do it with regard to the GSX after the memo? The GSX became an RPO?

Even if that is the case with GSX, it must be a form for other special orders, like Jason said, '71 & '72 bucket seats in convertibles and what Jim said for the local dealership car colors.

    They didn’t change course.

What they were saying was they wanted a completely filled out Wholesale car order form for the car and the specific GSX options they wanted. This way they knew exactly how to build the car.

You guys can challenge me whenever you want,

I know exactly how the 71 GSX’s were ordered because I have talked to some of the salesman that actually ordered the cars. I know how they filled out the forms so they would go through the zone offices to get the cars ordered.

I am also not going to explain further how this was done and certainly not on the open boards.

It is hard enough to authenticate the 71’s as it is, let along “giving” out information like this.

Sorry if some of you are mad about this, but that’s the way it is.
    Duane

    PS,
They most likely filled out the forms the same way for the other SCO cars.

Not mad but not following or understanding you very well either. I guess that's what you want, so I will leave it at that.

As stated above, I know they did not have a separate SCO form for at least the 71-72 cars and have never heard of any for the 70 cars.

I have been collecting info such as build sheets, copies of filled out wholesale car order forms, original invoices, original window stickers, original hand written option lists, etc for years. Most of this is for the 70-72 cars which I used as info to decode the build sheets. Some of this info has also come from SCO cars, and I have never seen a separate form for the SCO’s.

I’ll tell you what, feel free to keep on looking for one. Or find one of the original salesman that ordered one of these cars and ask him how he did it.

I can’t help further then this.

1970 GSX has its own order form.
There were no GSX options shown on the 71/72 GS wholesale order form or a place to add additional options (GSX specific) so there must have been some way that info was submitted to GM from the dealer that added those options to the order.

It says the "SCO should state" and "should be accompanied by an order form". With that and the lack of GSX options on the standard order form creates confusion on how those options were ordered.

Just spit balling here after digging around the interwebs a little and considering some of the earlier conversation - perhaps you as a dealer were supposed to add *8 at the bottom right of the regular wholesale order form?

This would call out the car to be assembled as a Special Car Order. You submitted that along with a form, or memo of your own, stating what was desired to the zone office for approval and processing?

I have always thought it was Special Car Order since the 1960's. The tag in the engine compartment in my Zone Office ordered Sun Coupe says Paint SCO -- there is no Paint # 1973 GS Option Breakdown from the Buick Archives says 1 of 4 built Gran Sports Code O for Other. no color information.
John Csordas' Brother in law also has a SCO code O 1967 GTO.

According to the old "Japan GSX" thread, *8 is the proper code for a "Special Car Order".

BTW, where is this car now?

That VIN number is 32,000 cars before, and the body number is 400 cars before, GSX number 1.

That car has a very heavy option load.

Yes it is. I got lucky with this one, 1971 Buick facts book, also 71 Buick price directory with Cadillac & Opel also. Very interesting pricing.
