I’m Truly sad people are worried about the shine on my balls.

Does the place you were working with on these make inserts for shift knobs?

I am trying to have one made going from 3/8 x24 to 5/16 x24 and can’t seem to find a machine shop to make me one. Any help appreciated thank you!

That's fine, the problem is that you seem to have been shining other people's balls too.

I have never asked them. I know they make everything to order so you don’t need an insert, I started this quest because I didn’t like inserts as the loosen up no matter what you do. I learned my lesson at the GS Nationals after I won a concourse gold award for my GSX you get to run your car down the track. I made a hard 1-2 shift and the ball came off and went between the seats and hit the rear windshield with a loud smack. How it did not shatter is beyond me? Good old LOF tempered glass. I got a nice scratch on my palm as well from the sharp shifter. I was lucky I didn’t rip my hand open. I suggest having one made with threads you need. What are you running for a shifter with those threads?

I have a restored 5335 handle but when I bought it years back I didn’t realize the threads had been turned down to 5/16 x24.

I have not been able to find an insert to adapt this so I can use an original shift ball.

I have found a shift ball that will thread directly onto this thread pattern, but again this is not my desired outcome. I am trying to use the original ball on the modified 5335 handle.

Dave, do you have one with the pattern? I can pick it up in BG.

I have the last 6 plain knobs from Dave's last run. These are correct for cars that came with the consolette and will only work on factory 3/8 fine thread shifter handles.

    $45
plus shipping and that includes the jam nut so the knob doesn't bottom out.

Anyone heard from Dave? He posted very frequently on this board (16k posts) and then disappeared almost 8 months ago. I sent him a PM just to check in but I don't have an email address or phone number for him.

PS: those are some nice balls! I can see you spent some time handling them with caution... Good man...

It's safe to say Dave's out. For now, at least.

I text with him regularly and my sense tells me he's moved on from Buicks. The ride I took in his new Audi ragtop yesterday likely solidified that.
