My late brother had a lot of stuff in his basement. We found this the other day under a work bench. I will bet it was for his mondo V6 project but the clutch, pressure plate should work in a 350, right? Also, he had a full blow proof setup under there too! Do I need a blow proof for a 350 mild setup that will likely never be raced or see 5000RPM very often? Anyone have any idea what this setup might be? Would I be happy with it or move on?
A Borg and Beck style clutch (those three fingers) are typically super stiff pedal pressure units. I had one (was a McLeod) for about a decade; they like to eat clutch pedals, forks and rods and bushings, maybe thrust bearings. I had to fix all three of those before moving back to a diaphragm style clutch, which doesn't require a King Kong type left leg.
I once had a Hayes 3 finger clutch in my 72 GS with a 455. You couldn't stop at a long stoplight and hold it in..My left leg was never in better condition while it was in the car.And no,you don't have to have a blowproof bell for your application...unless you really want to..
Good to know. It will all be for sale shortly. This is a mild 350 so no need for a super setup. Any idea what it is worth?
I'd be interested in the scattershield when it's up for sale, possibly the flywheel too. Does the flywheel have any part numbers on it?
I will check it next time I'm over there. It is an hour away and I don't get there as often as I used to.
Jeeps with Buick V6 used Borg and Beck style clutches. I bought one at a Jeep dealer back in the 70s but the fingers did not clear the throw-out bearing fork.
