I'm going to take a deeper dive into this when I get back from the nationals

    Please do.

I have 3 working LL sending units here, a gauge with a needle that flies to HOT when the factory water temp wire is grounded and a dash in pieces.

I'll likely dive into the bulkhead of the harness (at the firewall) this weekend and see if I can't muck anything else up while I'm under there.

What's a good source for a resistor if the one I found in my stash (below) doesn't fix this issue?

I've run every conceivable diagnostic test and this is the only thing left to address.

    I miss Radio Shack...

The resistor pictured above tested fine on the ohm meter.

I installed it and nothing changed. Looks like my gauge is toast.

Oddly, after warming the car up, this is where the needle sat 10 minutes after shutting it off.

    I give up.

That resistor is for the fuel gauge to prevent the pointer from fluctuating rapidly due to fuel slosh. It has nothing to do with the temperature gauge. Do your other gauges work? Disconnect the oil pressure sending unit and ground that wire. The oil gauge should go low when grounded and high when open. The same with the fuel gauge. If it works properly, 12 supply to the gauge is good because all of them use the same power supply. I really don't see how it can be working backwards. What was worked on before the gauge quit working? I see that the first pin on the left is bent. I seem to remember having issues with those pins not making a good connection with the printed circuit board.

    Sorry for the confusion.

That's a spare gauge I used the resistor from for my rally gauge, which has 3 separate resistors on the back.

The only thing that changed before it quit working was the install of a Stinger S-4 ignition. Nothing else.

72 gs conv ny Where's this part go?

Any updates I’m experiencing a similar issue. What is the acceptable range from the sending unit?
