A '68 Camaro RS with a spun rod bearing in the non matching block is likely joining my fleet. I'm in the middle of a 455 build aiming for high 10s in a Skylark...maybe stuffed Camaro is on the menu?!? The RS is an AC auto trans car. I'm guessing no off the shelf headers will work? Anyone seen or done this?
There are a few of us with a BBB in Apollos. Thats the same chassis as the early Camaros. The rear steering box ruins any chance for any header to fit. Converting to a front steer system would be the best bet. Otherwise you're building a set.
Stock manifolds were actually my 1st alternative Even with them, there just does look like there's much room with the rear steering box and evaporator box. When the current owner damaged the SBC, for a hot minute he was talking about going BBC. So at fall Carlisle I was checking them out. It's weird, the BBC looks huge but it doesn't look anymore difficult to work on than a SBC in that car. The spark plug location and header angle is a CF
The evaporator and box on factory BB Camaros and novas is different than the SBC cars. I don't know the difference though. The left manifold needs to be from a 72 electra, for some reason it has a large indent that will clear the steering box. The other years are smooth and won't work as easy.
I actually did this about 25 years ago. The owner of the Camaro did find a set of Chevy chassis mounts that fit the BBB,but we were using S2 track eliminator heads. So no problems with exhaust headers fitting. Bruno .
