Front parking brake cable install?

Today I tried to install my front parking brake cable on my 1969 GS 400. Do you have some tips for that with the wheel well on? It's just painted and I really don't want to remove it.

If I install the front end first I'm able to get it in the right location through the firewall, but then I'm unable to mount the other end with the threaded part correctly. I can't get it through the chassis. It's a threaded rod of a few inches.
When I do that part first, the front part sticks out to high and because it's such a stiff cable, I'm then unable to put it correctly through the firewall.
I already tried to pull on it with a rope, but no luck.

Should I use a breaker bar? Other ideas?

6 year old pics, but this is how it was.

Yeah, its a complete PITA. I did it on the beater and it took me a while to get it in place. Literally near impossible but I did it

Ok, apparently it is possible. That gives hope. I'll try again today.

You hang a e-brake cable on a hook on the assembly line and build a car around it.

Over at the other model line, they start out with a heater core...

    I got it!

But now I don't know in which hole the guide needs to go in the crossmember. I checked the manual and my old pictures, but I'm not sure.
I do remember I had to press the parking brake pretty far.

From the manual it looks like I need the outer one, but on my old pictures it was the inner one.
    I have the outer now.

    Edit:
And in my box was this screw missing. Anyone have any idea which size this is?
Could it be a steel sheet metal screw which are also used for the front end?

I believe that is the correct hole for the hook. I think its a smaller style sheet metal screw with a 3/8" head. Like the type holding the voltage regulator in place but maybe a little longer. I'd have to look it up

You are in luck - I just took that screw out of 2 different cars ('70 & '71 - actually may still be in the parts car) and it's labeled:). I'll just have to dig through all the bags but will & post a pic.

That's a pretty big bolt. I had the idea I need a smaller bolt; but I'll try to source/find one. (which always is a pain in Europe, you can buy it in any hardware store, but we only have metric stuff here.)

    Brilliant, thank you :)

Idk about all that but YW! I feel for you guys overseas trying to do these cars. BTW, both the '70 & '71 had the same hardware.

When, I had the engine out of my '72 GS, I replaced the front half of the encased brake cable. it was a pain in the ass releasing the connector at the firewall but I got it. I replaced the cable assembly for under the car a few years ago, not a hard job.
