I was a forum member about 20 years ago but couldn't remember my login information. Back in my high school days I bought a 1972 Skylark roller and swapped in the 455 out of my dad's 1970 Electra. It was sold long ago but I've always had a sweet spot for the 70-72 bodies. My son is now a freshman in high school and decided he wanted a classic for his first car so we picked up this 72 "Fo Do" Skylark. Car was a one-family car passed down 3 generations before we picked it up about a month ago. You can see the oil change sticker from the last time oil was changed in 2011. It was parked in a garage and driven less than 300 miles in that timeframe. I picked it up and drove it nearly 5 hours back home without a hiccup. Shortly after getting it the alternator went out and I snapped the bolt mounting the bracket to the water pump. We're now replacing the timing chain, installing HEI, and doing some other maintenance while we're at it. I haven't had time to take very good pictures yet. Looking forward to this father/son build opportunity.
Welcome back, I too left for quite a while. There is no better source for information on classic Buicks than this form. Matter of fact, I will put the average mechanical car knowledge of this group of folks to be well above average. They have helped me out too many times to count.
Welcome back from Florida! Back when I was in high school my best friend had a FoDo 72 Skylark. I always liked the Buick A-Bodies after driving it a few times. From a dead stop, it would burn the tire for as long as you could stay into it.
Yeah, painted top. I thought it was vinyl when I was headed to pick it up. I couldn't get a very good shot at the tag directly.
Nice! Same as my '70 GS 350 4-sp. (43 48). Never seen another in that color combo. Jealous that you got the green interior to boot - Mine is (was) the Std. (no-cost) black (car is a basket case) & the only choices in '70 in those seats were black, blue, or Sandalwood, which I'd have preferred but it'll get the orig. black when done. Here's a sprayout(s) that Sean (@Paintworks) did for me so I could see what it would look like done. I stuck a piece of the top trim in between them to really give it the look.
