I owned that car a little while back. It is a true documented 27000 mile car. P brakes, and hood tack where added at some point. Never detailed out for show.
I was just talking about this car the other day. Cool car. I wish them luck bringing that kind of $$$ being a small block car with low option load.
Its a Consignor selling it so its really about $38k IMO, I texted them and they aren't in the mood to make a deal right now. Also I wish when they repainted it from the stripe down they had at least did the best they could with those huge scratches on the top and other places, touch-up would not have hurt this car at all, and the color is off slightly, either left it 100% alone or fixed ALL the problem areas and color matched a lot better. Don't get me wrong, I would Still take it home.
I know that there are members vouching for the authenticity of this car and the low mileage. I also know the Seller claims Then and Now performed a partial re-paint "below the stripes" Ad - "THE PAINT BELOW THE STRIPE WAS FRESHENED UP BY THEN & NOW AUTOMOTIVE IN 2007 IN CORRECT CORTEZ GOLD LAQUER"). I've seen many cars with work from Then and Now and have never seen an oversight like this ... which just leaves a few questions hanging. Don't get me wrong, it appears real and is a beautiful example. My eyes just gravitated to the painted '71 headlight bezels .... and that he inside vertical ends are painted too. I believe these areas on the right and left side of the bezels are supposed to expose the chrome ends downward from the exposed chrome edge of the front hood molding so the (unpainted & exposed) chrome strip runs from upper bumper surface up the inner edges of the headlight bezels across the molding on top of the grille opening and back down all the way to the other side of the grille to the bumper. Maybe these pics are before the final detailing? This begs another question. In '70, I believe the entire (RH & LH) headlight bezels were primed and painted instead of chromed first. Is that correct? The NOS '70 GSX headlight bezels I have seen were totally in primer. The '71 GSX bezels, however, show both painted and chromed surfaces indicating they were likely all chromed first, then primed and painted. Is that correct"
Wow I would love to trade my 72 GS455 for this 71 GSX just so I can have matching cars like my 71 GS 350 4 speed car. I even have a set of NOS 71 bumpers which will fit perfect for this car!
It is real. I owned it as well, and the mileage hasn't gone up much since I had it. Confirmed low miles original car It currently has disc brakes, but was not a factory option, I installed them. As for the paint work, that was done because of some body side moldings that were not perfect any longer. At the time the shop who did the work had a great reputation. The color is pretty dang close to the original, and could only be seen if 1) you saw it just the right angle, or 2) someone told you. As for the paint chips on top, well it's almost 50 year old factory paint, and the thought was, to leave it alone as much as possible. If you saw it and drove it, you wouldn't pick it apart as some are doing now. The car is a joy to drive, runs perfectly and is 80 factory original? How many can make that claim?
Sorry Mark if I rubbed you or others the wrong way with my comments, truth is I would love this car parked in my garage, I'm not picking it apart, I thought we were/ are DISCUSSING the Car. MY OPINION was that I can tell the 2 different colors of original paint and new paint from just the video on UTUBE, and in MY OPINION I would have fixed the scratches on the roof, and I don't think it would hurt the value 1 bit to due so, 50% original paint vs. 51% original paint, seems reasonable. And also I don't like adding anything not Factory to the car, be it disc Brakes or tach anymore than adding a 4-speed, I would re-paint the whole car before I would of added anything not "born " with. But that's all JMO.
Little red (to kill some of the green) , white and yellow were needed in the paint mix, yea the headlight doors were a good, but easy enough to fix. Be an awesome one to own tho 350 or not
What is considered "a joy to drive and runs perfectly" to one person might be marginal to another at least in my experience. All in all a nice car though
THANK GOD i sold that POS when i did, Oh no a scuff on a 47 year old car, Oh the Horror of it all. ! I'm sure 500- 600 cars with 20k miles have come out of the woodwork in the past 8 years right? They're a dime a dozen..
Don't worry about it dl I had a couple of my old cars blasted too Opinions are like a**holes Everyone has one most stink But I found all the negative ones usually from someone who has never seen the cars in person
I have seen this car in person and its a very sweet ride. I wanted to buy it back years ago and I still do. I just don't want it at the price its currently offered at. I would put this car up against many cars I have seen. lVery few cars are as original as this car is and I for one would rather have a original paint car that has chips in the paint, imperfections, and some minor flaws than a repainted one that I don't know whats been done to it in its life. The light touch up to the paint was a good decision on the previous owners part. I would not touch any other paint on this car. Its only original one time. leave it alone and enjoy having one cool rare Buick. This car is not for everyone some people just cant live with imperfections but for many of us this is the type of car you can drive to a show or out on the weekend to a local cruise. Something to enjoy that you don't have to worry about every little detail. I am biased because I love any and all GSX cars. I think many forget these cars were never perfect from the factory.
Yep, the originality is all gone so I would stuff a 625 HP Stage 2 in it and go boil the reproduction Polyglas GT's off it since they are not original either...
I dont want anything DL has owned! He is known for his street racing and burnouts, hell he even sideswiped some poor girl in a gas station just for kicks in a low mileage California 70 GS. Buyer Beware!
