I guess this is a two part question. Whats the fastest stage 1 car around? Also whats the fastest stage 1 car pound for pound? Im sure that there may be low 9sec cars but i was wondering there weight, compared to their weight of heavier slower cars .
both was just wondering how fast you can get with either debating on if a aluminum heads are worth it
Greg Gessler recently broke into the 10's with stock appearance and bias ply tires...but that's gotta be some serious intake/head/exhaust manifold work. Devon
Rob Chilenski holds the record, not sure of the exact time. Somewhere around 9.40 with iron heads. I'm sure someone will post the exact time. Massoud wants to reclaim the title and Rob is now running aluminums. Steve
Chilenski holds the record for steel heads I belieive 9.44 and he also holds the record for aluminum Stage 1 TE heads runing around 9.11. All Buick power no juice. Same car, after running the 9.44 he switched over to aluminum. Bruno DiPaula with their 65 GS ran a 9.12 with Stage 2 heads Me, I ran 9.25 with Aluminum Stage 1 TE heads. Greg Gessler who is about the closest stock appearing GS around ran 10.99 I am pretty sure John Massoud switched over to aluminum and will be running at the GS Nats. With steel heads I am pretty sure it was around 9.54.
i had the honor of gettin wooped when graig ran his first 10 sec et it was close though 10.99 to my 11.12,its on video somewhere on this site.next race i ran a 10.98 and through it in his face so he went out and ran a 10.97 @ almost 125 and through it right back, that was at cecil last fall and i think that is still his best.
Street Rep, Good racing that day at Cecil! You can find out more about Rob Chilenski at this link: http://www.gesslerheadporting.com/members/gesslerheadporting/ghp.nsf/sub-menu/Photo%20Gallery01
Before I sold the Apollo to Tom Rix, it's best time I ran was 10.35 at 130 mph in GSE Stage 1 Iron-Head trim. 3600 lbs street legal with tags and running 3" exhaust through the mufflers. At that time the class limited us to a 9" convertor, no hood scoop, no fiberglass and full stock appearing interior. The Apollo was always fun to drive. Tom has Pics of the Apollo in the Spring of '06 Muscle Car Review. His Stage 2 motor/trans, running gear is much faster than I ever had it. And he does it all on 9" slicks and limited to IHRA Top Stock rules. Marv.
Im working on the steel head version now 3800 lbs 10.07 at 140 at tha nats going to try to make lower in norwalk:laugh:
Rick i did not switch over to aluminum heads there greg lookers heads 1 of my iron heads were cracked and was out getting fixed so they will be back in my car when the old combo goes back together and for whos the fastest iron headed stage 1 its Rob C with a 9.43 to my 9.57 soon to be broken !!! but now hes also the fastest aluminum stage 1 (i think he took that from you  ) by the way the rules we made back in the day were 3000 #or more, buick body, any c.i. ,no power adders. so anyone that wants to try give it a shot, many have tried and failed (you know who you are) Later John.
 Not to start a arguement but 3000lbs isn't exactly a heavy car and who made the rules? And the last time i checked the fastest v8 has the biggest power adder you can buy:dollar: Getting it dun wit a iron head stage 1 is still a accomplishment any way you do. Its not rocket science but the lighter you are th faster you will go. Thats one of the reason i asked pound for pound who is the fastest
well like i said before get a 3000# car with a stage 1 iron head motor and break the record it seems like its easy but there have been a couple of people that have tried and failed my car and robs car are 3275# with the iron heads just think if they were 3000# and all the fast iron head guy got together back in the early 90s and thats when the rules we made up and by now there carved in stone because anyone can whip a big shot NOS kit on and go fast, making this kind of power on motor with 37 year old heads is making a BIG STATEMENT !!! im not done yet with the iron heads till i go faster than 9.43 i wont stop running them i know i could go alot faster with aluminum heads but after making a 9.50 run and you take the hood off people just cant beleave it has iron heads. later john
Bottom line if it was that easy every one would have nitrous on but there on a few who have courage to try.i was in BG didnt see but 2 cars wit nitrous and i was one and im sure you know who the other was!! I wil admit you are right if he weighd 3000 he would fly. Now take a 10.00 car thats 3800 and do the math and then realize it stock suspension on a 10.5 tire Take a 37yr old head and put a 300 shot of nos and watch happens if it aint right. Bottom line fast is fast anyway its dun! Im not trying to ma ke a big arguement but i just want you to realize that it dont matter how its dun supercharger, nitrous turbo, or n/a!!! SEE Ya in norwalk!!!!!!!!!!!!!:3gears:
