Hello everyone. I have a holley sniper quadrajet efi on my buick 430 motor. Long story short I have had multiple issues with the dang thing and cannot get it to work 100% correct. I’m consistently tinkering with the thing. Re-ran wires to see if RFI was there issue and no real difference. Talked with holley tech to troubleshoot with no real success. Online forum and have to have got give me a custom tune to get it running half correct. What I am asking from you guys is I’m sick of by the efi and going to go back to carb. I would like to keep my “ Star Wars” air cleaner on engine. Can I go with a holley or edelbrock carb and do this? Or do i need to run a quadrajet carb to run original air cleaner? Suggestions on carb size? Mechanical fuel pump standard from TA performance? Motor is 430 bored 60 over. TA c110 cam installed. Stock heads Edelbrock intake. Thanks , Ryan
I’d say AT LEAST a 750 cfm, make sure it’s a double pumper ( mechanical secondary) Vacuum secondary carbs are HORRIBLE for performance. Stock fuel pump should be fine. I’d get with one of the Q Jet guys on here and have them set you up with a good Q Jet.
I think you "can", I don't understand why you'd want to. A properly-set-up Q-Jet is going to work well, and obviously fits the air cleaner. The "big" Q-Jet. Generally acknowledged as an "800", some folks exaggerate and call 'em an 850. There's a Pontiac-only single-booster-venturi design that's VERY rare and expensive, and you won't need anything that exotic. I'd be buying a Buick 455 core carb, '76 if possible, maybe a '75 if the '75 has the black-plastic "shot glass" instead of the anaeroid barometer fuel metering, and tuning it as required. But there's a lot of choices and you may find that throttle linkage or choke design makes something else more attractive. Buick was the first to use the non-goofy-Pontiac larger-CFM carbs on big-blocks starting in '72, I think. I would avoid an engine-driven pump if I had the choice. An electric pump in or at least near the tank, plus a return-style regulator would be better. Depends on how they're set up. Nothing wrong with a vacuum-secondary on the street, particularly with an automatic trans. THAT I agree with. Or get Cliff Ruggle's book and D-I-Y.
I do have a electric fuel pump on frame rail already for the efi with a return line and regulator.. So i know TA has Quadrajets for sale on their website.. but some of you have suggested persons on here to hook up with for a carb.. any suggestions on who i should PM to get me set up properly? Ryan

OEM fuel injection is the ONLY type of fuel injection I’d trust for reliability and accuracy. I think people get caught up in the word “INJECTION” It conjures up images of power, and speed. If it was called “COMPLICATED FUEL SPRAYING” people would think differently
You mean an electrical pump, right? Electrical pumps are good at pushing fuel, not so good at sucking fuel. An electrical pump should be mounted low so it can gravity feed, or inside the tank itself. I have a mechanical pump. It is the CV Products pump good to 850 HP. It was expensive, but it does the job. Well just my 2 cents. I thought the same thing and even had co-workers who have efi with no issues. I tried re-routing wires for RFI possible issues.. holley tech and holley forum.. the amount of dang time I have put into trying to get it to run right was ridiculous! I hope you have better luck! As of mpg I not too worried about that as my car is for cruising and having fun.. not my everyday driver… so let the fuel burn!! If you do buy one get the sniper 2 as it “ supposedly” fixed the RFI issues..
If your engine has any high performance upgrades, Rob Ross here on the board will build it right the first time.
Where exactly is your fuel pump? You said it is on the frame rail, but that isn't enough detail. Is it mounted low behind the tank? Do you monitor fuel pressure with a gauge?
