When my spring broke the spring pocket was not deep enough and the spring was moving around. This happened very long time ago, but this might be the problem here.
I think cam failures are more caused by not using the correct break in oil. I took the inner spring out on mine to break in the cam and all is good now.
After I told my machinist buddy what I did, he laughed at me and called me a dumb ass. He then made me a .200 adapter for the micrometer. I think that I will just double check my pushrod length and rocker geometry. If everything looks good, I'll just replace the other 15 springs.
