I'm looking at the SRP TA 1611B Pistons That would put me .012 below deck with a .030 gasket and 68cc chamber with a SCR 10.6:1 and with the TA290-94H cam I believe the DCR would be roughly 7.8:1 My quench would come in at .042
So my car currently is a 350-2 TBH350 with a 2.56 rearend. The 455 will take a little time before it is ready for the car. But I am doing the rearend this winter, is there a gear range I need to stay in so I can enjoy the 350 now but not need to change when the 455 is ready
I think I'm going to sp with the TA Pistons, it will put me at .012 under my deck. I also see you're from Chardon, we keep our horse in Huntsburg off 322.
I'm actually in Hambden not far from your horses. I use a machine shop a mile from me to do all our machine work, from concours to street/strip, strokers and full race,he knows Buicks, been doing our stuff over 20 years.. Stop over when visiting your equine.
Your 71 car should have the 8.5 10 bolt rear, but you should verify that before ordering parts. If you haven't owned the car from new, the rear could have been swapped out in the 52 years since. The 8.5 will have 2 squared off lugs at the bottom of the pumpkin. It will also have 2 straps and 4 cap screws holding the rear U joint to the yoke. The 8.5 is a great rear, and it is bolt in axle. Parts availability is excellent. 3.08 is a great all around ratio. 3.42 is a nice performance ratio. RPM at 60 MPH will be up around 26-2700 RPM.
There’s a reason Buick engineers used a 3:42, it’s the perfect all around gear for 455’s. My 3:42 with 28” tire turns 2500 RPM at 65 mph.
If you're gonna spend money on a housing....provided it's not a Buick 8.5...then go 12 bolt Moser housing
