Nice car!! Headrests are rare on ‘68s. I have the Ram Air kit Dano mentioned-it’s cool and might add power but yes it was a tough decision cutting into the firewall! (It has a GM part number, so it’s not too ‘wrong’ to install it. Patrick
Totally understandable & I'm not sure I'd add it either - Just making you aware of the option in case it was of interest.
Welcome to the Board. I'm a little north of you with a '71 GS Convertible, BUT also in your town is an original owner '69 GS Convertible, 4-speed, that he traded a BB Corvette in on! He's not on this board, but hopefully we will all meet someday. Mike
I wonder about the air cleaner lid? Did that come off a '69? The decal looks original to my eye, but my '68's (One Fremont one Kansas City) do not have any decals on the lids? Just Chrome?
Welcome from Florida! That's an awesome 68, too. Skyway Classics is just about an hour south of me...
Oh ok, it's meant to attach in the middle of the firewall.. I thought I had seen pic's of it attaching to passenger side and with a flatter style plastic inlet? Kinda like a old Nascar setup. Did GM offer both styles on the 68, 69 A bodys? This has to be GS's most affective ram air.. Are you running a snorkel too now? I was thinking this setup up top.
As far as I know, Buick offered this as an over the counter item in ‘68 and originally just cataloged it for the ‘68 GS. Later catalogs show it fitting ‘69 also. The instructions come with templates that show where to cut the firewall and air cleaner, along with rotating the voltage regulator. I cut my factory wide snorkel air cleaner and left the snorkel open. I don’t know if there would be any harm (or benefit) to capping off the snorkel; I’d have to run back to back trials to tell. Part number is 1394349. Patrick
I was told by the selling dealer that all was original for the ‘68. I believe the’69 used the “GS-400” decal and the ‘68 used the “400-4” decal, but I could be wrong!
That ‘68 ram air is freaking cool, never heard of it before. If I had a ‘68-69 I would have to have it!
Greetings Rick! Great car. That air cleaner decal is not needed, the callouts on the 68's were on the valve covers. From a fellow '68 owner, great to see another here.
Thank you Ted! That is a question that has been on my mind for years. Neither of my '68 GS's has any decals on the Lids. I keep seeing them on people's cars and always wonder...
Welcome from Ohio. Thats one of the first White cars that I have liked. The stripe makes a positive addition. Welcome to the Stepchild Nation.
I agree - plain white is not usually my 1st choice but the stripe & against the black interior (& I assume bkack top) makes it pop. Same w/the white GSXs & esp. the '71-2 w/black tops.
