If you have the right 2004r builder like Husek or Janis the 2004r is a fantastic trans, i run 800 lb/TQ behind one in a heavy Turbo Buick. Only a hand full can build it right.
I have rebuilt the suspension all the way around. Everything blasted and powder coated. New control arm bushings, shocks and springs and links. No rear swaybar. It’s lowered 1.5 inches (I liked the sag look of those tired springs) With qa1 shocks. It rides really well.
I have over 600 on mine with a lock up on a switch. The car runs 11.40s at full weight. To be fair it has only been to the track twice just to get a number. If I thought I could have used the 4l80 without tunnel mods I probably would have butwas told i couldn so i didn' even try.
Yup. Snowballs are easy to make. Also much easier to get to the fuel tank rubber lines w/the rear out & replace the brake line while doing the body mounts.
2.5 One of these might be could be. Yours was intended for the next batch, but I haven’t heard from on of the people that I set one of these aside for. I did weld tabs on it for disc brake hose brackets, but you can still run drum brakes and all the stock stuff without them being in the way.
I prefer to run urethane body mounts, but someone people think it makes for a harsher/noisier ride. But hey,it’s better than solid steel.
Here you go. 71-72 8.5” 10-bolt with Motive 3:42’s,Tru Trac unit,Timken bearings/seals,powder-coated housing,urethane bushings.
BrianTrick built me a 8.5 with 3.42. Will be swapping the rear, engine(350 to 455) and trans (TH350 to 200-4r)during Fourth of July weekend. Any recommendations for U joints? Spicer part numbers? I am trying to use factory driveshaft.
If the shaft is a 2 piece tube...Dump it for a one piece with out Rubber dampener ...Solid steel from another car or small truck or have one made. You will save yourself a headache. Unless this is a trailer queen. Jim JD Race
sOME PEOPLE GET FOOLED AS IT looks LIKE ONE PIECE BUT TOwards the back 1/4 of the tube it is literally a tube inside of a tube. straight with rubber holding one to the other inside the tube. Good luck, Jim

I just used longer mount bolts with an extra nut or two between the trans and the mount. If you do not get this right, you will have driveline vibrations. My body mounts are sagging/worn so I could fit only .33-.5 of spacer before the forward driveshaft Ujoint would contact the tunnelhump."
