Never heard of this - Looks like Hot Rod Drag Week may get some competition! Anybody been/going? Sick Week 2023 Presented By Gear Vendors, from February 12-17, will see 350 of America’s quickest street cars descend on sunny Florida for five days of drag-and-drive competition. Racers set an average time at each drag strip across the week to determine their place, and must drive their cars between each track along a pre-determined route. Along the way, they will socialize, party and cruise with hundreds of other like-minded participants. February 12 - Registration and Testing, Orlando Speedworld February 13 - Day One, Orlando Speedworld February 14 - Day Two, Bradenton Motorsports Park February 15 - Day Three, South Georgia Motorsports Park February 16 - Day Four, Gainesville Raceway February 17 - Day Five, Orlando Speedworld
It came to our track "South Ga Motorsports" last year. Pretty neat event, I enjoyed seeing the ideas that people came up with to allow them to make a pass at the track and then get back on the road. For many cars that meant a total re tire, fuel system changes, and many other things to make the show. They put a lot of work into the cars for that week.
Hot Rod Magazine led the way with their Drag Week but now the the demand for slots far exceeds what they can handle so others have stepped in and copied the event which has proved to be successful.
This is very cool. Anyone have a photo of it? I'm assuming you are speaking of a Cortez Gold '71 Zone Office car and not an orange '72?
That is the one. There was some discussion on here about that car and the owner last year. He has owned it most if not all of its life. Resto mod but stayed with the Buick engine.
Did Bobb ever get his turbocharged BBB car sorted? https://www.dragzine.com/news/bad-buick-bobb-markleys-twin-turbo-1972-stage-1-buick-gs/
Bob Mackley is riding with Steve Morrison. They had issues in Ga and had to pull out of the competition. Spoke with Bob several times throughout the day trying to find a solution for them, then offered up my truck and trailer if they needed a way to get the car home. Didnt know there was a stacker following them throughout the event. The crew are in Gainesville today. Id ride over there but have to be ready to run service calls if needed.
