I didn’t put many miles on it before I sold the truck. It worked great and I regretted selling it but I made a bunch of $ so I guess it wasn’t too bad. The combo was a single turbocharged 6.0 making 900 Hp to the tire, 4200 pound truck, 4L80E with Hughes triple disk lockup 4000 stall, 3.73 gear. I kept in touch with the new owner and it’s still alive 5 years later, it was great on the street and highway. I remember weighing the th-400 I took out vs the 80E and it was the 48 pounds gained with the swap. The lockup converter helped a lot with heat and made chassis dyno numbers much more consistent. My twin turbo 350 Skylark has a billet 2004R with 3800 stall triple disk lockup, it’s basically the same weight as the th-350 it replaced. But over 700 HP the 80E is the only way to fly really. I think if this 2004R ever goes south I will cut the trans hump out and make a new one to allow a 6l80E, they can handle 700 HP stock with a good converter. The gearing is incredible on the 6 speed. My 2012 truck has one and it’s great.
We’ll see. I’m talking about a street strip car not making anywhere near that kind of power but also not as heavy as a truck more like 675 hp Also, mine is a five speed. Not worried about the transmission holding up it’s built solid with a quality converter.
Probably a lot of the time, but I do have a trans brake set up. 4.10 with a 29" slick. Might try a 30" depending on fitment and RPM at the end of the track Not sure on the weight of the car. Pretty much a basic 71' Skylark with a cage ...Not really gutted out at all. I'm 250lbs myself added to that lol.
4:10 gear 28” tire boxed frame solid mounts.strange Dana 60 rear adjustable upper and lower control arms.no bar
4200 Coan 275 m/t drag radial.might go to 30” Hoosier drag radial.always hooked better with my old car with stiff side wall Hoosiers.will see
I would try to find a converter builder that is local to you. It may take a few tries to get the converter setup or the cars combo but it’s worth the effort. Saving on shipping costs helps a lot in this respect.
I run a tight super 8" just under peak TQ 692 at 5600 . stalls 5300 1,26 foot First time out on drag radials Slicks were sloooower
