Me again... My Skylark is a 4D, but the 4D wiring diagram 120-140 doesn't show A\C. I'm going by the 120-141 wiring diagram for different models. Ventured out to the car today to see what might be missing to put the A\C back in working order. It looks like everything is there (except what's in front of the radiator). I'm trying to make heads or tails of the A\C wiring in the car, but going by the diagrams, it's confusing. I'm not surprised... GM had it's way of doing things. This 3-wire plug with BLK, BRN and what looks like a DRK GRN wire that's cut is holding a resistor. It obviously mounts somewhere. Then there's that booted single BLK wire. I can't find anything in the wiring diagrams that even remotely resembles either of them. What's not apparent in the picture is that bundle of electrical tape is a bunch of wires wrapped up by a previous owner. I didn't take it apart yet. What is that resistor? Where is the A\C Hi Blower Relay and the A\C Resistor? I didn't find things like the Ambient Switch, or a plug with BLK and a DRK GRN for the compressor clutch either. Yet. I'm trying to find all new seals for the hose connectors and anywhere else there's a seal, but I can't find anything that specifically says it's for a specific hose end or part. Just generically named seals. Is there a kit somewhere I can get everything together? Thanks all! I appreciate all the help so far!
That's a thermal limiter fuse. The booted wire goes in the back of the compressor. It's for the superheat switch
s First image = blower relay is the gold thing on the right side of the pic. This is a 71 so wire colors may differ a little. Resistor is in the AC box, you can see it below this suction valve in the second picture (it is black so a little hard to see). Its just some prongs sticking out of the A/C box as the resistor is on the inside of the box.
That thermal limiting fuse is blown btw. They used to be on a peg hook in the aisle at every auto parts store there was.
It checks fine... I pulled it and all three leads on it have continuity. It may have gotten hot or blown in the past but this one is OK. Now if I can just figure out where the wires are going to\from it, I'd be good. The Green wire is cut off and the wiring diagrams are useless. Part of my issue is trying to figure out if some of this random wiring went to a different style (the original) alternator, and this one has been upgraded. The rest must go to the A\C system somehow. Found these two Blue, one Green and one Brown (or black?) wires bundled up in tape. They must go to different systems as there's nothing that matches them together. One Blue to the Alt? One Blue to the A\C somewhere? The brown and green are a mystery. Then there's that 2-pin plug that's had a huge resistor jumped across it. It's been like that for many years obviously. Time to fire up the DMM and start hunting.
The one with the big resistor goes to the transmission spark control (the round cylinder thing) that attached to the carburetor. Emission control stuff.
