I've obtained a used clock core to use for my quartz conversion. The pointed clock lens is very scratched and cloudy but, it has the factory hole for the clock setting knob so, I'd like to clean it up and use it instead of having to buy a new pointed lens and drilling a hole in it. Does this lens look like it's restorable? Can anyone recommend a product that works well and the procedure for polishing it up?
I recently did one on a speedometer I got from Dano for a friend. Soap and water and then Flitz polish with a microfiber cloth worked like a charm.
Beautiful, Brett. Thanks. Is/was the hole in the speedometer lens (for the speed alert) in the same position as the tach/clock lens making them interchangeable?
That lens looks a little rougher than the ones I have started with, but this product has worked for me before on some of the instrument clusters I have cleaned up. Meguiars PlastX Clear Plastic Cleaner & Polish #G12310 Headlight cleaner. | eBay
If there are deeper scratches, you may want to use ultra fine polishing paper. I used a product similar to the link below on my Buick and Firebird gauge lenses. https://www.micromark.com/Micro-Mesh-Finishing-Kit I also used it to remove scratches from the dust cover on a couple of turntables. I finished the polishing with the Meguiars that Tony mentioned above. Good luck!
I would think so. I can't imagine Buick making different lenses taking into account production costs.
