I would rather not have speaker grills mounted on the package shelf, however I would kind of like some fill in sound back there. Has anybody tried mounting a pair of 6x9's and just not open the package shelf? Or maybe just drill a hole pattern above the speaker? I'm not trying for audiophile sound, just something to listen to.
Jon, you can use these. The hardware mounts from inside the trunk. You might need a mesh deck tray. Make sure there are like keyhole slots for the hardware first.
My package tray has holes in the board but not in the material, so you can’t tell that I have rear speakers. They are bolted from the truck side
Also hate modern / protruding rear speaker grilles. I'm going to try and form my own, flush-mounted grilles (made from the steel grill off an old Remington window A/C unit), and have it all the same color. Have to make some plywood bucks and hammer it over them. Looked at a local decorative metals retailer, but tho they have some awesome & unique materials... 3 grand for a (minimum 4x8' sheet is more than a little nuts.
Same for me. My mesh package shelf has a series of holes where the speakers are. 6 X 9 speakers mounted from underneath, no grills. Looks nice and clean.
