462 motor that my dad and I are building will be put in probably end of May. His prediction is 11.80 with that motor. Def need to start thinking about the next step as to rear tires/suspension.
I don't mean to be a downer, but I think Dad might be a bit optimistic.. when you at the level he is now, you tend to forget how hard it was to get there. I recall how hard it was to get our 70GS into the 11's, and we had whole bunch more motor than you just built, plus 4.33 gears. You might want to temper your expectations.. I think Low 13's or high 12's might be more what your going to see. Especially if your 69 has highway gears. Just sayin...
Hey Jim, my dad had a 70 GS with the same gears and was an 11 second car. Full weight. Just saying. My dad knows what he is building and how to get in the 11s.
Yes stock 400 car. That's why when I pull this motor I'm keeping it. Rare motor. Will keep it just in case I want to sell car later in life
When I ran my brothers 68 gs 400, stk motor minus offy 360 intake and 750 edelbrock.....3.08 gears with m&h g60-15 tires it went upper 14.30s. It was faster than I thought it was going to be. Glad to see you out having fun with it
How fast the new motor makes the car will depend on how good the heads flow. Regardless, it will be faster than the 400, and you will have a blast. A certain amount of tuning will be necessary to get the best out of it. I remember what it took for me to go from 13's to the 11's. Whenever I got my time slip at the end of a run, I always thought to myself that the run felt faster than what the slip said. If you run 12's, that will be outstanding.
There's always been those combos that do better than they should,....there have been more than a few guys take stock 70 shortblocks with stock heads and nice cam,..original hemi killer or something and manage high 11s,...it's not common by no means,....the vast majority of us don't get that lucky, ha,...I remember a fella years ago in GA had 73 shortblock with 430 heads,..small valve,..pretty healthy cam,..S divider intake and an damn edelbrock carb and the thing was running low 12s at 109mph,...made no sense to me ...but that's what it was,...certainly not typical tho. But your pop has always had great running combos so yours will follow suit I'm sure
