Well since I have been looking for ANY 70 heads for a year (stock or modified) in my limited budget I realize this is putting the cart before the horsepower but might give me a chance to secure tools I need. Is there a recommended tutorial or threads on how to work on your heads. Currently I would only be comfortable deburring but would appreciate any advice on tools needed (I have a cable type dremel and laboratory combination magnifying lamps, wide assortment of files) or any other thoughts. I will be lucky if my car ever see's 12 second 1/4 miles so under no illusion that rwith all the options and my lard a$$ but would like to give some SAFE porting and polishing guidelines if anyone would care to share there knowledge. Thanks in advance, Fritz
Start with a simple gasket match and smooth the ports. Then open up and blend the valve pockets and smooth around the guide boss. On the exhaust side dont worry about the floor, spend the time on the roof of the port. Dont try to get fancy, just smooth and blend.
Take your pick - hopefully someone will chime in on the best tools! https://www.summitracing.com/search/part-type/porting-and-polishing-kits I bought some "buffs": https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sai-265022 and a cheap arbor: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sai-269201 which worked fine with the buffs. They worked great for polishing, but not for removing metal.
