Ive got a 67 skylark with a 455 my son and I built but the alternator isnt charging. The alternator tested fine at napa but still no dice, Ive got to test the regulator but I may just switch to a 12si. Does anyone have a part number for one of these? sometimes these parts stores dont understand where your coming from lol. Thanks in advance

Are you using the remote voltage regulator? The change over is really easy, you can buy a $25 kit and plug and play, or be creative and change some electrical connections yourself.

I run a 94 amp Duralast DL7194-6-3 I bought from Autozone - it's clocked just right out of the box. It's what you'd find in a late '80s G-body. Get a pigtail that fits it; swap the pulley; simple rewire job to eliminate the old voltage regulator. Fits right in the stock 455 alternator bracket after you grind tiny lump off the case. Mine's been in the car for around two decades now.
I used an alternator for an 83 Olds Delta 88 with a 307. I re-clocked it to the connector was at 12. Re-clocking isn't difficult, even if you have to reset the brushes. I used a straw from a spray can to hold the springs/brushes in place. The pulley came right off with an impact. I swapped the fan and pulley from the 10DN to the 12si.
UPDATE, I did the tests first on my regulator and alternator and it showed a leaky diode and to replace the alt. So I used the duralast number but got it from napa since autozone didnt have it in stock anyway. Anyway I wired everything according to this link (http://www.buickperformanceclub.com/alternat.htm) and now it charges at 13.25 at an idle and about 14.4 revving it up. Very happy with the change and the car definitely runs better with a full charge and charging! LOL Thanks for all the help
That is an easy, elegant upgrade, getting rid of that clunky mechanical voltage regulator. My first was on my 62 generator. When the 5.7L diesel cars started hitting the junk yard, I grabbed enough of those 70A alternators to make all my cars the same plus spares. With a significant current capacity increase, do note if your main output stud cable needs to go bigger. Bruce Roe
