I think I know the answer, but wanted to confirm. This is a 10 bolt listed on FB marketplace with a TA low profile girdle. I don’t want to waste the guys time opening it up if it can be identified by the attached pictures. To me, it looks like a Chevy 8.2. Thoughts? He pulled it out of a 70 Buick “GSX”.
Thanks Brian, the cut outs at 5 and 7 threw me off. Probably a good deal with advertised 3.73 gears and the TA cover for $600 but I need an 8.5 with my disc brake setup.
That 8.2” has the same type and shape of housing end as the 8.5”. If your disc brakes fit the 8.5”,it will fit that. Just FYI.
Who makes a bolt on rear disk brake kit for the bop 8.5??? I know willwood has then for the bop 8.2....but they told me the axle offset was just enough different to make it not work on the 8.5. Something about the distance from the backing plate mount to axle flange surface was different
The right stuff detailing disc brake kit fits that rear. I have done plenty of them back when the first owner owned it I bought and did a lot of business with them. I just do not have time to do disc brakes anymore...I spend all my time just building the diffs guts. Tell most customers they have to install there own. Just do not have the time. ALL GM A body and F body from that era are 2.75" offset brakes. They include in all the disc brake kits the spacers that are the same thickness as the backing plate in the kits. ANY Chevelle kit will fit the BOP A body rears. ALL kits have the correct flange spacer needed to install these single piston calipers... AGAIN you may have to modify the rotor inner diameter or the lathe down the outer axle shaft wheel flange diameter to 5.85" ish from 6" plus. THAT is on all BOP bolt in axles. IT is noit really that hard even with a grinder and some patients you can do it BACK YARD ish. Jim
Like Jim said,if it fits the BOP 8.2”,then it will fit the 8.5”. If you have a Vista housing with the SET10 bearing, which has a slightly larger diameter, the Right stuff bracket will still fit if you enlarge the inner diameter to fit around the larger tube. There is also a new bracket available for that and the larger Moser end for the SET20 bearing. It’s a two-piece bracket that mounts on the front side, then offsets back to the correct location. Pictured shown of the two-piece.

The other non issue I'd have is, I run aftermarket wheels on my car and not the Buick Rally wheels.I just hope the E brake cable isn't a problem ..
Well Jim...it's going on the rear-end you built for me...Like Doug Hecker says...it's only money...and I can make more...lol
I considered that, but my wife may actually drive the car on the street and I am a little concerned about her braking abilities..Had a W 30 master cylinder on the car before and I didn't care for the brakes...
I honestly have never felt the difference between manual and power brakes. Maybe I have a heavy foot. I HAVE noticed a difference when the booster was not functioning properly or there was not enough vacuum. I thought I was going to break the back of the seat off.
