I owned this one many years back. It was much more complete at that time. One of only 39 Flint built 44637 cars painted Stratomist Blue. Wonder how many were Stage 1 4 speed cars??? Almost heartbreaking to see it now. https://columbus.craigslist.org/pts/d/caldwell-1970-buick-gs-stage-4spdparts/7360311022.html
Woulda been a nice car. Originally special order stratomist blue, black top and black buckets. Can’t make out the window sticker.
The rundown... A1. Stage 1 Performance Option B3. 4 Speed Manual Transmission. D1. Sonomatic Radio F7. Super wide oval tires G60-15 (incl. chrome wheels). L1. Soft Ray Tinted Glass. O4. Door guards O5. Remote control outside mirror. P1. Carpet savers and handy mats. U5. Instrument Group (gauges and tachometer). W2. Custom upper peak moldings. W4. Protective body side moldings. X2. Rally steering wheel. 3P. GM special paint - Buick. **. Custom vinyl roof covering. **. Custom trim. Vinyl bucket seats. Note the car lacked power steering and brakes. Was originally ordered by Eddie Lavelle who was a service tech at Len Immke Buick here in Columbus. Eddie raced the car extensively, and the original engine/trans didn't survive. When I bought the car in the 1980's, it had a 4.30:1 gear installed in the rear axle which I later learned had been installed shortly after the car was originally purchased. Car was still complete when I owned it. Kind of difficult to see it now.
Me too (no #). Damn, a stripper/manual steering Stage 1 4-sp. My weakness. If I didn't already have too many... What a shame to have let it deteriorate like that. Interesting that for such a low option car it was ordered w/all the protective stuff (body side moldings, door edge guards, F&R mats) plus the upper peak mldg. & chrome wheels for looks. Plus of course the requisite remote mirror & vinyl top that such a large % were ordered w/ (mine included). It's actually optioned very similarly to mine exc. the PDB mine has. If anyone gets this one and is looking for a sheetmetal donor, I have a very solid '70 factory bucket seat, Flint built, vinly top Skylark shell. It's an A/C car so not a body swap candidate but would be a great foundation to use the floors w/factory seat mounts, rear wheelhouses, etc. (or swap the firewall/dash, etc. into). Would like to see it go towards a worthy project like this.
lol…. I guess I would be the “deviant”… I would keep the shell, if it needs a replacement frame so be it, quarters, fenders, doors, hood… wouldn’t care if the radiator support was an SAE 71/ 72 or an aftermarket, would find a non matching SS block, an M21, a 3.64 posi, and just go from there. The window sticker proves it’s provenance….
The above example (and these) is owned by Brett Young. Brett's car however has a bench seat. No less striking, a beautiful color combination.
Oh no. Build it to a as raced looking condition. Hopefully find a skylark parts car w black bench interior n good metal. Restamps a no no. But it’s done by some. I got duped once by a stamper.
Would love to have it...and I believe I have almost everything (except SS engine) for it... Would be a very nice project....
Good point... As I almost bought a 69 stage 1 project- blue with parchment interior.... Then I was seriously contemplating Nick's blue stage 1 hardtop... it was blue.... WTF is with these blue cars?!?
I feel that way about green cars. Good thing I like them. Not only GS's either although almost every one I've owned has been green except for '71's - Only 2 I've owned were both Burnished Cinnamon. My 1st vehicle (Buick powered Jeep Wagoneer) was green as were the Plymouth Valient I inherited from my grandmother, my beater Toyota Camry & others. Never had a blue GS. Only green vehicle I sought out was the new Dodge pickup I special ordered. Shame green '71-2 GSX's are such a rarity among rarities...
I think had I kept this car, it would have eventually received a pearl white interior. As nice as it looks with black guts, imho white is perfect with Stratomist Blue. Being a non-numbers car would have made the decision easy to live with.
