Hey guys, I am a little new to Buicks and need some real opinions on a purchase. I found a 1970 Buick GS 455 that is super clean. It is fully restored and looks great. My concern is it does not have the original 455 but has a 455 out of another 1970 Buick. How bad does this effect the value? What do you think is a good price on this car? Thanks in advance
There's a few things going on with the exterior so you need to decide how correct you want the car to be and factor that into the price. It's missing the 455 fender emblems, has a '72 rear bumper with the N-25 exhaust, and looks to be missing the trunk lid molding.
I see your point, When I asked about the bumper he said its a rare option for this year but I cant find anything on this info online. Im going to be honest, I love the car but I have been a ford guy my whole life and dont know that much about buicks so Im trying to see if its something I would want. Im not exactly worried about it being all factory I just dont want to over pay if that makes since. What would you guys pay for a car like this?
Need to know if it is a GS455 car or a Skylark or GS350 that has had all the goodies added on. If the cowl tag has 44637 then it is a GS455 originally. Skylark is 43337, Skylark Custom is 44437, and GS350 is 43437. Edit: These numbers are for 1970 models.
The N25 bumper option was so rare in the 70 model year that the factory never installed one. Automatic trans, 4 speed, column shift, console?
The most important things are (1) What is it vs. what’s it represented as, which you have some insight to now, (2) What’s not right for a ‘70 GS, which we can help with from pictures and (3) What condition is the body and mechanical (rust, bondo, overspray, noises, smoke). The third question isn’t Buick specific so you should be good to go on that. Patrick
In addition to emblem placement, are you saying they look like the NOS ones with the wrong gap? Patrick
Ron, welcome aboard. The car you looking at seems to be in pretty good shape with a great color combination with the blue and the white bucket seat interior. I know you’re asking how much you should pay for but if you don’t mind me asking what is the owner asking for the car? We can go from there with price.
Ron can you get a picture of the Cowl tag that will tell a lot it’s located on the top of the cowl on the driver side.
The "arch" of the fenders is off, they are flat for lack of a better term. Not too easy to correct especially for first timers...
