Hi all, New to the forum and was hoping that someone might help me in my quest to find some parts for my 68 GS that I'm trying to get into shape.... I'm looking for a p/s fender and fender-well....yup, battery killed both and I'm thinking I'm beyond one of those patch kits you can buy that surround the area near the radiator support in the location of the battery tray. If there's a member that could direct me to anyone to help with this request that'd be awesome. TIA and look forward to this forums experience. Woody
My car needs this repair also, although the fender itself is still ok. I think some of the repair kits might work, depending on how bad the damage is? I think the Cars (oldbuickparts.com) people have both a repair kit and reproduced tray? Or if you car has bigger problems like mine, you can just wedge a piece of wood in there...
Haha Max Damage...you would think that Buick would've made 2 to 3 times more RH vs LH wheel well housings because of this notorious problem.. I have the kit from oldbuickparts.com but it think it'll just fall thru the chasm which is my battery tray area currently... was thinking of a ratchet strap and pressure treated 6x6s honestly!
Maybe some photos of this mess, so we can come up with another plan, or just feel better about our rusty battery areas? I have also gone to an absorbed glass matt battery, which has no vents and should stop this from being an ongoing process.
I have a right 69 fender, I do ship. Its on my Ebay store, here is the link with lots of photos and details. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hard-2-Fin...408862?hash=item4212cf2cde:g:y~IAAOSwg9hdPMTY
So I suppose I need to ask where this project is going? My car is a driver, so I would love it if it looked good, but don't need it to be "correct". If you don't expect a show car and the repair kit is too small an area, maybe making your own repair panel that fits in there would work? I would try to get as much of that rust off, and use some kind of Phosphoric acid rust treatment first (naval jelly, rust mort, etc.) I can't tell if you have removed the core support or that is rusted through as well? Looks like a lot of work. If the repair kit isn't working for you I am interested ;~)
It's a numbers matching car all the way around... Some douchebags before me painted everything black, must've been a sale, and I'm trying to get it back to a daily driver.. I have to do the trunk pan and alot of the interior... The motor and trans were both rebuilt and ha e virtually no miles on them both... I will keep you in mind if I don't use that fender kit.
I see a couple of RH front inner fenders on eBay: 1968 1969 Buick Skylark GS Front Inner Fender Set 1232912 RH and 1230449 LH 1968-1969 Buick Skylark GS California OEM inner fenders Left and right1968-1969 Skylark Inner Fenders 1968-1969 Skylark Inner Fenders The third one costs as much for those inner fenders as I paid for both my GS's + 1000
Ugh, now you made me go look at mine, and your photo no longer makes me feel any better. The first Photo is looking down the corner of the battery, and the second photo is looking up from under the car. Note the lovely wood. It's too bad that none of the Third parties have made a (bigger) repair pan for this issue. seems like they sell a couple (at least). If you had a Nova or a camaro, you can buy the new inner fender...
All these eBay listings are either ridiculous in cost or too far rusted or both... too expensive for being able to see daylight thru the fender well that I happen to need...
I hear that. I am likely to fab something up here and tack weld it in. or fasted it with sheet metal screws. Your strapping idea isn't bad either.
This is the one I have. The one on Ebay for 2500 is from billions and trillions and he thinks his parts are worth billions and trillions
