I'd sure like to have this as a parts car. I would be wearing a mask anytime I had my head in that interior.
And rear defroster! Only the 3rd 67 intermediate ive seen With cruise. Appears to still have the hydraulic line from the cruise only 2 speed trans to the actuator on the firewall
"Barn find" If it was recently found, that would indicate that no one knew it was there. So, if no one knew it was there, how did they know it had been there for 30 years?
I too would love to have it for parts on my 66' Gran Sport. Wonder if that cruise control would work with a 401?
Maybe. The cruise control used a special valve body on the ST300 trans. There's a decent chance the '67 parts would swap over to the '66.
That style of disc brake wheel was used for two years, '67-'68, and were necessary due to the very large 4-piston brake calipers. When GM started using the smaller single piston calipers in '69, these wheels were were no longer used by Buick. These wheels were not shown as an option on the '67 order form. The only way to get them was to order the disc brake option and the wheels were automatically included.
In '67 the EXACT same wheel 14"x6" wheel was also used by Chevrolet on the Chevelle, Nova, & Camaro, and had a DG code stamped by the valve stem. These are not to be confused by the 15"x6" version that Chevrolet used on the Corvette which also had a DG code. Seems strange that they used the same code on both the 14" & 15" wheel, but they did. Some people ask "why did Buick use a Chevy wheel in '67?" I respond with "No, Buick used them in '67 and Chevrolet began using Buick wheels that year. After seeing Chevy using them on so many cars, Buick decided to stop using them. Chevy kept on using the Buick wheels for decades because it made their cars look better to have Buick parts on them." Someone has repainted the wheels silver on this particular car. Chevrolet painted them argent (silver) but Buick painted them the color of the body except on the white and ivory cars, and for those cars the wheels were painted black.
btw, I just want to clarify, I'm not sure about the details on the '68 disc brake style rally wheels. The details above would apply only to '67. I don't think the '68s had the DG code but I'm not aware of what code was used. I also don't know what colors they were painted, or if it was possible to order them on a car without disc brakes, or if there were other wheels in '68 that could be ordered with disc brakes.
Went and looked at the car and negotiated a price. Going to pick it up tomorrow morning. I have everything for factory cruise setup on my 66 Skylark but the trans and wiring to the trans. With this I have everything to complete mine and get it working. The hyd line has been replaced and is homeade, but I can fabricate a correct appearing one.
Cool to see someone here get it. How rough was it in person? Just curious. Must have been a very nice car new.
This is great news. The cruise control was the thing that caught my eye the most and I'm happy to hear that parts will be used from this car to make yours functional. I've never seen one on a '67 in person. How rare is automatic cruise control on a '67 A-body? According to the '67 Buick production figures there were only 1,718 built with this option. That represents 0.96% of the total production run of 179,520 Special, Special Deluxe, Skylark, and Sport Wagon cars (it was not offered on the GS400). The breakdown by plant: 1,183 at Flint 145 at Fremont 207 at Baltimore 183 at Kansas City Good luck picking up the car tomorrow.
