Ken Montour's 70 Stratomist blue Stage 1 weighs in at over 3900. The car has gone a best of a 10:80 @ 124 MPH in full street trim and full exhaust, with Stage 1 Iron heads. You may have seen Ken's GS set up for and running and winning the "Modified Street Stock" Class at the GS Nationals. Car NEVER hooked and got as bad as a 1:68 60 ft (compared to best 1:48)but ran 11:04 @120 MPH at the Nationals with the "stock" wheels.
Hi Keith, as you and I discussed at BG together, we need to further the cause for this style tuneup. Between the existing MSA and my revised SA, things will get HOT now !! Casey has now agreed to come help me tech the BOP in Bristol, and the Reynolds race, so things are looking up as they say. This could be the start of something cool... Jim
Jim, Your idea for a MSA class was (is) a good one!! I am glad we picked up on it, there is so much potential in the class, and both you and I, saw how MANY cars there were at the Nationals that would FIT and be able to run in this class!!! There is a wide gap between the SA & SE Classes that needs to be filled,MSA is the perfect comprimise to the SE class. Here you can have a place to run heads up, with an honest to goodness street car !! Kind of brings back the good old days when we still had the "Junior Stock" Class at the Nationals, pretty much the similar type of cars. Rules and cars not complicated either. Hope others pick up on the Class, and add to the fun.
Rick, I talked with Cory Ruffo today. He claims his car has gone 9.16 with Stage 1 heads. But... it was alky injected. So... the records stands as it is. I was hoping this 9.16 pass would have been normally aspirated so I wouldn't have to put the Stage 1 in my car. Well.... time to get to work. Rick.... Let those guys know I will be installing the stage 1. Really... I dont think I can compete but it will be fun. Thanks John
Hold on ... John, I think Cory's car is still naturally aspirated, but used a port injected alcohol setup, like a flying toilet or derivitive thereof. I don't recall him ever having a supercharger on alcohol. That would make him the fastest ?? Jim
Thanks Kieth... I was pitted next to you on Saturday in BG. The Blue car is definately impressive. Before I switched to aluminum heads, and Street Eliminator, I ran a 10.72 @ 126. MSA is a great class....maybe I'll see you there next year. Perry Carlini
Perry, We were real impressed with your Cortez Gold 71 !!! It runs real strong and is a real contender. Too bad you had problems with the diff as you were doing so well up to that point. Look forward to seeing you guys next year or even at Bristol etc...Good luck with the car, I hope you get the diff sorted out quickly enough.
I hope a few more people see the potential of the MSA Class and the simplicity of it, would be great to see a group of strong running cars in the Class.
Hmm, Amandas GS would fit nicely in MSA, I just need to figure out how to get the GS and the GN to Bristol??
I’m on the phone with Don Mcintosh now. David ran his 71 standard bore 455 (old Nussell body car) in 1993 @ 1.36 60 ft. 9.63 1/4 mile at 135.xx. (By Don’s recollection). Stay tuned! That gold car may be at nats in May!!! I’m working on them!!!
sorry to say I'm disappointed to have read all this great dialogue of buick history with not 1 single pic or at least the faint smell of some black gooey aromatic ,, sigh
