Its sad actually that the fellow that had a vision, a curiosity about how they (the heads) would work, passed away before he finished his project. It would be a shame if those heads never made onto an engine and dyno'd and driven
We will test them forsure! I’ve got a spare 10:1 engine all balanced, forged pistons and it would be fun in my 75. It would be a about 11.5:1 with those heads the chambers are so small. I’ve got a lot going on, still building a new house
The same guy had also created a set of two piece casting alum 455 heads with canted valves. My head porting guy is re doing both the iron 350 heads and the 455 two part heads.
We didn’t get the flow sheets with the heads we have no idea how they performed. When the father passed away the son could not find all the paper work.
These parts were custom made for a Buick nut who happened to own Southside Machine who was a pioneer in the Buick suspension way back in the day. https://southsidemachine.com/about/ The owner of Southside Machine rented part of his building to a then new Cylinder head company called "Trick Flow" now a huge company. The iron closed chamber and these two piece alum BBB heads were built for the landlord who was obviously a Buick nut. Chris and I got these parts after the guy passed away (may he Rest In Peace). We will put these parts to good use, flow testing to come.
Not sure why you like closed chamber heads so much. They shroud the valves choking off flow. GM knew this with the BBC and went open chamber on the 427. My own BBC had closed chamber. I switched to smogger open chamber heads and made more power despite losing about 1.5 points compression. Is there any data that suggests some amount of quench makes more power than airflow around the valves that is lost? Those heads look like BBC clones. And yes I know it's not apples to apples.
Those 350 chambers remind of a Ford head. ..455 head Did the head ever make it to Chris? I offered to pick them up and ship them. I'd like to see the numbers. I contacted TF about them and they don't recall anything about them .. there's no history or record of them.
You are incorrect Julian there is plenty of history etc. Plenty of people including family and fellow Buick racers knew they were built at Trick Flow also. Trick Flow rented the other side of the building next door to SSM from the owner {Larry) of SSM, same building address back then which is also supported. Trick flow move there in 1992 and heads were built in 1996. etc etc
Yes the current Trick Flow employees may not be aware of work that was done before their time. I called asking about my iron 350 heads and the same thing, the current employees were not aware. Yes Chris has all the stuff now.
Most of the TF workers were not even alive in 1996 lol they asked me to send some pictures of the heads so they could display them.
Chris, I'm sure there is history. But I contacted trick flow and they are completely unaware of it why can't you just take it for what it is? It seems like you're always defensive about everything.
